On 24 December 2019, the Czechs made 15,913,579 calls in the T-Mobile network, sent 19,023,106 SMS and 550,634 MMS. Data traffic increased 43% compared to Christmas Eve last year to 1,066,039 GB. While "older" methods of communication (calls and text messages) were used by people during the day, the strongest data traffic only dominated after the evening giving presents and traditional fairy tale after 9 pm.
The number of calls was significantly lower than during a normal weekday. Overall, the Czechs made almost 16 million calls on the T-Mobile network, which is less than 2% more than in 2018. The busiest quarter was 10:45 am - 11:00 am, when people made almost 450,000 calls.
On the other hand, the volume of Christmas Eve messages - especially multimedia ones - was much higher than on weekdays (more than 19 million, or less than 561,000). Nevertheless, it is evident that the popularity of this forms of communication is decreasing: the number of text messages decreased by almost 12% year-on-year, the number of MMS was lower by less than three percent. Most text messages were sent between 9 am - 9:15 am (almost 490,000), the busiest MMS quarter-hour occurred just before 1 pm.
Conversely, data traffic grew again year-on-year, by a full 43% to 1,066 TB. People have been using the data more intensively than on weekdays since eight in the morning, most of them used data during a quarter 9:45 pm - 10:00 pm.
