Communication wristbands not only for senior citizens

  • The wristband device enables making a call or sending a SMS at the touch of a single button
  • Ideal solution for the elderly, chronically ill, disabled, and children as well as their family members or caregivers

Prague, 19 March 2009 - WM OCEAN and TELTECH Servis, supported by T-Mobile, are introducing a unique product to the Czech market, the Skeeper and GeoSkeeper wristbands. These wristbands allow elderly and chronically ill people to easily be in close contact with their family or caregivers, or can serve as a convenient tool for parents to keep tabs on their children. Thanks to a built-in GSM module, communication is a matter of pressing a single button, whether for making a call or sending a text message. In addition, the GeoSkeeper is equipped with a GPS module for location tracking.

Anyone who has taken care of a person who is not able to use a mobile phone or requires close supervision knows that it is not easy to leave such a person alone. The Skeeper and GeoSkeeper devices from the Israeli company Aerotel Medical Systems, which is one of the world's leading suppliers of mobile modular tele-medical devices for GSM transmissions of medical data, significantly contribute to the peace of mind of those who take care of disabled or chronically ill people.

"There are a number of devices on the market for monitoring persons, but the Skeeper and GeoSkeeper wristbands offer a completely new standard with respect to taking care of elderly and disabled people, or children," says Pavel Maruna, Director of WM OCEAN adding: "The benefits of these wristband devices include not only the possibility of locating a person but also alerting a caregiver of any change that may occur during their use, such as a dead battery, activation and deactivation, etc.

The wristbands have a built-in communication unit with a GSM/GPRS module. Users thus may easily, at the touch of a single button, make a call or send a text message to pre-defined numbers (family members, doctor, monitoring or emergency center). The user can also receive a call at a single touch. If a call comes from the pre‑defined numbers, the wristband can also accept the call itself.

Mobile communication is handled by the T-Mobile network. "WM OCEAN and TELTECH Servis are participating in our Partner Program. We are pleased that our company can be involved in such a useful service based on Skeeper wristbands," says Pavel Dolejš, Vice President Non-voice & Value Added Services at T-Mobile.

The monthly fee for using the wristband ranges from CZK 149 to 299 excl. VAT. This price includes not only a flat fee for calls and text messages, but also set-up and change of telephone numbers, non-stop technical support, support in handling emergency situations and full user access to maps enabling location of GeoSkeeper devices.

The Skeeper wristband can be purchased for CZK 7,560 excl. VAT (CZK 8,996 incl. VAT) and the GeoSkeeper model costs CZK 10,500 excl. VAT (CZK 12,495 incl. VAT).

The Skeeper model is equipped with three buttons to which the user can assign the selected number. If necessary, the user can call this number directly or send a predefined SMS. In addition, there is a button for emergency calls which enables storing of up to four telephone numbers. In the case of emergency, Skeeper dials these numbers in sequence until a connection is established. The user can request help also in situations where the wristband does not contain a SIM card - in such a case, the user can contact the 112 emergency number.

The user can program all functions, i.e. assignment of numbers to individual buttons, composition of a preset SMS, types of notifications, etc., easily via a customer infoline. The infoline assistants will gladly provide help not only with setting up the device, but will also give advice on how to best use all of the wristband's functions.

GPS location and tracking
The GeoSkeeper wristband is equipped with a GPS module which makes it possible to locate the user in the case he/she wanders outside a specified zone or makes an emergency call via the wristband or the monitoring center. The Skeeper model also allows user location via the "Where is" service from T-Mobile.

The safety wristbands are available for end users as well as for various medical centers and institutions. "The first of our large-scale projects is the introduction of these wristbands in the Olomouc Archdiocesan Charity," says Martin Zeman of TELTECH Servis.
