Prague, 1 January 2009 - The New Year's Eve's statistics again show that sending Happy New Year wishes via the mobile phone remains a favorite part of New Year's Eve celebrations. Unlike on the Christmas Eve, on the last day of the year T-Mobile customers prefer making calls to sending text or multimedia messages. The most heaviest traffic was registered shortly before and after the midnight - most SMS were sent between 11:45 p.m. and 0:45 a.m. and most calls were made shortly after the midnight toast between 0:15 and 0:45 a.m. While the total number of calls dropped slightly, the number of sent text messages and, particularly, the number of sent MMS have increased.

On the New Year's Eve, T-Mobile customers made almost 23.3 million calls (this number includes both outgoing and incoming calls), which represents a decrease of 2.2% compared with last year. The heaviest voice traffic was registered between 0:15 and 0:30 a.m.

In comparison with last year, the number of sent text messages increased only slightly by 0.7%. In total, customers sent more than 13 million text messages from their mobile phones. The busiest hour for text messaging was between 11:45 p.m. and 0:45 a.m. when customers sent almost 1.8 million text messages.

A larger increase compared with the previous year was reported in the number of sent multimedia messages, which grew by more than 4%. While in 2007 more than 155 thousand multimedia messages were processed by the MMS centre (sent from mobile phones, external applications or via the internet), this year the number of sent MMS exceeded 162 thousand. The busiest MMS traffic was again between 11:45 p.m. and 0:45 a.m., when more than 14.5 thousand MMS were sent.
