NEW YEAR'S EVE IN THE T-MOBILE NETWORK

Data traffic grew by 46% year-over-year to over a million GB. Conversely, the number of calls dropped slightly to 22.3 million and the number of SMS sent decreased to 13.7 million.

Prague, 1 January 2020 - New Year's Eve traffic in the T-Mobile network confirmed the trends from previous years, especially the steady growth in the volume of transferred data. A slight decline has been registered in other mobile services usage, less noticeable for calls and more noticeable for text messages. Czechs made 22,320,182 calls on the T-Mobile network, sent 13,726,950 SMS and 327,175 MMS. Data traffic increased by 46% compared to New Year's Eve last year to 1,180,643 GB and was strongest in the afternoon after five o'clock. Traditionally, the largest number of calls was made after midnight.

While the number of calls decreased slightly compared to last year's New Year's Eve to 22.3 million, the frequency of calls increased by more than 3% at the busiest time, which was the first New Year's quarter-hour. During this moment the Czechs made 1,200,468 calls. In the first hour of the year, there were almost 2.7 million calls.

As last year, the volume of New Year's SMS decreased, by more than a million from 14.8 to 13.7 million. The decline of almost 15% was most significant in the busiest part around midnight. Compared to weekdays, people used multimedia messages more often than SMS. In total they sent 327,175 MMS, which represents a year-on-year decrease of 4%. The busiest hour in SMS and MMS was between 23:45 and 00:45. The busiest quarter hour occurred at 0:15.

The volume of transmitted data increased by 46% to 1,180 TB. People used the data intensively from New Year's Eve 9 am to the second morning of the New Year, most between 17:15 - 18:15.
