T-Mobile and O2 launch first shared LTE transmitters

Prague, 11 July 2014 – T-Mobile and O2 have started sharing their fastest mobile internet networks, jointly putting into operation the LTE network in parts of the Tábor and Pelhřimov districts. In line with the agreed division of the operators' responsibilities over the management of LTE transmitters within the Czech Republic, T-Mobile will be responsible for the operation of the transmitters in the Tábor district while O2 will be in charge of the transmitters in the Pelhřimov district. Both companies will continue using their own network infrastructures and will follow completely independent business strategies.

In the Tábor district, the LTE service is newly available, for example, to residents of Radenín, Smilovy Hory, Vodice, Pohnánec, Dolní Hořčice, Pohnání and Zadní Střítež. In the Pelhřimov district, the LTE signal now covers the communities of Čížkov, Eš, Samšín, Bořetice, Bohdalín, Čáslavsko, Zhořec, Těmice and Cetoraz. Customers of both operators can thus enjoy truly fast-mobile internet experience with download and upload speeds of up to 75 Mbps and 25 Mbps, respectively, which are several times higher than in the case of the 3G network. The speeds will be further increased in the future.

T-Mobile and O2 signed the agreement on sharing their fourth-generation (LTE) mobile networks on 2 May 2014. This partnership will help introduce high-quality, high-speed internet services in the larger part of the Czech Republic as early as this year, but it will also bring savings which will allow both operators to make further investments in their networks and services. Additionally, sharing of transmitters will enable faster rollout of the fastest mobile internet network than that stipulated by the frequency auction conditions.

The fourth-generation network sharing project involves the entire territory of the Czech Republic, except for Prague and Brno. T-Mobile will be responsible for the management and operation of the LTE networks in the western part of the Czech Republic, while O2 will operate them in the eastern part of the country.
