Prague, 20 October 2016 - In partnership with Microsoft, T-Mobile will organise a T-Mobile hackathon for developers, designers, IT experts, university students, free lancers and small business owners. The event will take place on 2-4 December 2016 at Impact Hub (Drtinova 557/10, Prague 5). The aim of the T-Mobile hackathon is to come up with an innovative idea or a prototype of an application on the open Mojio platform which addresses mobility, transport and basic vehicle security. CZK 100,000 will be distributed among the three winners directly at the event; after the event, T-Mobile will provide additional financial support to the winner for development of the application. Microsoft has also prepared attractive prizes for all participants.

“For the end of 2016, we are preparing an interesting solution for our customers that will allow them to very easily transform even older cars into smart cars. The platform on which the solution will run is still open and we see here a huge opportunity for Czech developers who are starting to see success on the world stage,” says Otakar Mráz, Category & Product Manager at T-Mobile.

“Our vision is that innovation that is brought about via the cloud will become accessible and beneficial to everyone. Therefore, we support non-profit organisations, start-up businesses and developers. For example, Microsoft allows start-ups to use our tools in recognition, machine learning and artificial intelligence so that we can accelerate the creation of more great ideas on how to make the world a better place with the help of technology. As part of the BizSpark programme, start-up businesses can use our Azure cloud platform completely free of charge,” says Milan Hrabovský, director of the Developer Division at Microsoft.

Applications may be submitted by teams and individuals; as the total capacity is roughly 60 people, those willing to take part in the event should apply as soon as possible. The event will be held in English. Throughout the course of the T-Mobile hackathon, experts – mentors from the Canadian company Mojio, Deutsche Telekom, HUB:RAUM of Poland, T-Mobile Czech Republic and Microsoft, coaches and other consultants – will be ready to provide advice.

Prizes

Attractive prizes will be provided to all participants. T-Mobile will provide financial awards for teams: 1st place – CZK 50,000, 2nd place – CZK 30,000, 3rd place – CZK 20,000. The grand-prize winner will receive financial support for the development of their application. As the technology partner, Microsoft, will donate USD 100 vouchers to all participants and provide Microsoft Azure and Xamarin licences to teams for the duration of the hackathon. Additionally, it will also give the winners an opportunity to participate in the BizSpark+ fast-track programme, which offers free developer tools and credit for Azure; this prize worth up to USD 120,000 will be available for two years.

All the other originators of competing projects who are interested in continuing their cooperation after the T-Mobile hackathon ends will have an opportunity to take part in the BizSpark programme, where they will be provided with developer software, credit for Azure and technical and marketing support from Microsoft for three years.
