T-Mobile is the first operator in the Czech Republic to start technical pilot operation of VoLTE
Very fast connection and higher quality of calls, less load on the networks
The service will be put into commercial operation next year
Prague, 22 October 2014 – T-Mobile is the first operator in the Czech Republic and one of the first in Europe to have launched Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology allowing standard IP calls in the LTE network. The service, now in internal technical pilot operation during which the operator will test and debug the VoLTE solution, is to be put into commercial operation in 2015.
The biggest advantages of VoLTE are the very short time needed for connecting calls (approximately two seconds), improved quality of calls and reduced load on the networks. Additionally, data connections are not restricted during such calls.
Calls in the LTE network are currently made using the so-called CSFallBack (circuit-switch fall back) option, during which mobile phones are switched at the beginning of a call from LTE to 3G or 2G and return to the fastest network after the call is finished. T-Mobile is the first operator in the Czech Republic to have offered this technology to its customers together with the launch of LTE on 1 July 2013.
T-Mobile is also the only operator in the Czech Republic to offer to its customers HD Voice, a technology that brings outstanding voice quality and much higher-fidelity voice transmission with suppression of background noise. Compared with HD Voice, VoLTE enables much higher call quality.
