T-Mobile: LTE network in Mladá Boleslav

  • T-Mobile is the first operator to introduce an LTE network covering an entire city
  • Speeds of up to 75 Mbps
  • Free trial of LTE internet access

Prague, 15 November 2012 – T-Mobile is launching the LTE City network in Mladá Boleslav today. It is the first operator in the Czech Republic to provide complete coverage of an entire city with fourth-generation technology. Only four months after the successful first LTE speed test started in Prague, the new technology will be available to the general public. All interested residents, commuters and visitors of Mladá Boleslav can test the connection at speeds of up to 75 Mbps free of charge.

“The LTE City project now allows potential users in the entire city to get direct and real-life experience with the capabilities of the next generation network,” says Frank Meywerk, Technology Director at T-Mobile, adding: “If we obtain a suitable spectrum at the frequency auction, we are ready to start the LTE network rollout in 2013. Our LTE City will then be transformed into a regular part of our complete 4G footprint. We will continue to provide our customers with the fastest network in Czech Republic.”

LTE City operation gives local mobile communication enthusiasts the opportunity to experience LTE even before the conclusion of the spectrum auction and the country-wide commercial launch of fourth-generation networks. Prior to the commercial availability of the optimal spectrum, this network is using 2 x 10 MHz bandwidth in the 1,800 MHz frequency band, which provides its users with internet surfing speeds of up to 75 Mbps and a maximum theoretical upload speed of 25 Mbps. Coverage is provided by a total of 19 transmitters located in Mladá Boleslav and Kosmonosy.

All LTE City network users in Mladá Boleslav will be able to try out LTE free of charge. From today, the Huawei E398 USB modem, which supports LTE in addition to the 3G HSPA+ 42 technology, is part of T-Mobile’s standard offer, so customers can already get ready for the arrival of fourth-generation networks. Customers who purchase the Huawei E398 device in Mladá Boleslav, whether with a contract  or for an unsubsidised price, will automatically receive with it a free special SIM card set-up for the exclusive 4G high-speed data services within the LTE City network (on data devices) for the whole trial-operation period which will last at least six months. The modem will cost current customers CZK 599 incl. VAT with a minimum monthly payment of CZK 800. The basic price is CZK 3,499 incl. VAT.

The new technology can also be tested even without any hardware purchase preconditions – it will be possible to borrow modems and special SIM cards free of charge for one week at the local T-Mobile and partner shops against a returnable deposit equal to the modem price.
