T-Mobile data the fastest for a year already

  • Up to 63% year-on-year increase in 3G data speed
  • Network optimization
  • Further extension of HSPA+ 42 coverage planned

Prague, 15 October 2012 – According to the results of the measurements of internet connection speeds performed by the independent server DSL.cz, T-Mobile has come out on top for the twelfth time in a row. The operator can thus celebrate one year of its network having the fastest 3G data speed. This has been achieved not only thanks to extension of coverage, but also to 3G network optimization. However, the operator will not be content with this primacy and plans further extension of the fastest HSPA+ 42 coverage.

“We want to give our customers the best and therefore we place emphasis on high quality and we try to improve the network to achieve maximum user satisfaction,” says Milan Hába, Vice President Category & Product Management, adding: “In October last year we were first in the measurements with the speed of 2.95 Mbps. In September this year, the speed of 4.1 Mbps was measured, which is a year-on-year increase of up to 63%, which really makes a difference.”

In addition to coverage, higher speeds are also reached thanks to network optimization consisting primarily in fine-tuning of the parameters for improvement of quality and set-up of antennas, which has a positive effect not only on the reach of coverage and provides continuous transition between base stations and between technologies, but it also helps increase transmission speeds. Tests show average acceleration of approximately 30% and improvement of smartphone performance especially on the edge of the coverage area of individual cells.

Within the nearly year-long work on optimization, which became one of T-Mobile’s biggest technology projects, engineers have so far driven more than 35,000 kilometres with their measurement vehicles adjusting the configuration of 2,243 antennas and changing the tilt of 1,616 antennas. This has resulted in network tuning that has brought customers acceleration verified and tested by twelve measurements by an independent server.

T-Mobile's 3G network currently covers 85% of the population, with connection speeds of up to 21 Mbps still being uniquely available throughout the entire network. In seven cities (Brno, Liberec, České Budějovice, Zlín, Otrokovice, Mladá Boleslav and selected parts of Prague), the HSPA+ 42 technology, which doubles the theoretical speed to 42 Mbps, is also available. The operator is also introducing this technology in a comprehensive way, covering entire cities instead of only their centres or parts (with the exception of Prague, where it is continuously available in city districts 4, 11 and 12). This year alone, the HSPA+ 42 technology was made available at more than 400 base stations and in the course of 2013 customers in Ostrava, Olomouc, Hradec Králové, Pardubice, Plzeň, Ústí nad Labem, Karlovy Vary, Jihlava, Poděbrady, Nymburk, Beroun, Vrchlabí and Trutnov will also be able to enjoy it.
