The operator has prepared a small surprise for hiking enthusiasts before the summer: on Monday, 20 June, it launched an LTE (including 2G and 3G) transmitter which is installed on the Post Office building located on Mount Sněžka, one of the most popular mountains with tourists not only in the Krkonoše Mountains but also the neighbouring European mountain ranges. In the high season, up to ten thousand tourists visit the Czech Republic’s highest mountain daily.
Installation of the transmitter took four days and the weather conditions made it very difficult for the technicians – during those four days, it became apparent how unstable the weather can be in the mountains. Throughout the installation, the technicians were also supervised by a very interesting visitor (see the picture below).
Last year, T-Mobile launched LTE on 2,112 transmitters; this year, it is working on finalising the coverage of most of the country’s territory. Among other things, the operator is focusing on providing quality coverage on roads and railways and at mass events. LTE is currently available to 87% of the Czech Republic’s population and super-fast internet (3G and LTE) to 97% of the population. LTE services are used by 736,000 T-Mobile customers.
