- 22.6 million calls
- More than 12.9 million text messages sent
- Like on Christmas Eve, a large increase in the number of multimedia messages sent
Prague, 1 January 2008 - T-Mobile's New Year's Eve statistics again show that wishing others a Happy New Year using a mobile phone remains a favorite part of New Year's Eve celebrations. Like last year, T-Mobile customers preferred making calls to sending text messages. The heaviest traffic was registered shortly before and after midnight - most SMS were sent between 11:45 p.m. and 12:45 a.m. and most calls were made shortly after midnight, between 12:15 and 12:45 a.m. While the total number of SMS sent dropped slightly compared with last year, the number of calls and, particularly, the number of sent MMS increased.
On New Year's Eve, T-Mobile customers made almost 22.6 million calls, which represents a 5.7% increase compared with last year. This increase was also influenced by the fact that New Year's Eve fell on Monday, and thus included standard business-day traffic. The heaviest voice traffic was registered, as usual, between 12:15 and 12:30 a.m.
In comparison with last year, the number of sent text messages dropped slightly by 5.6%. In total, customers sent more than 12.9 million text messages from their mobiles. The busiest hour for text messaging was between 11:45 p.m. and 12:45 a.m. when customers sent almost 1.9 million text messages.
Multimedia messages experienced the biggest growth compared with the previous year - the number of sent MMS rose by almost 24%. While in 2006 more than 124,000 messages were processed by the MMS centre (sent from mobile phones, external applications or over the internet), this year more than 155,000 such messages were sent. The busiest MMS traffic was between 11:45 p.m. and 12:45 a.m. when more than 14,000 MMS were sent.
