T-MOBILE: 100,000 HOUSEHOLDS WILL BE COVERED BY FIBER NETWORK BY THE END OF THIS YEAR

  • By the end of 2025, the T-Mobile fiber network will be available for one million households
  • Construction is still a long-distance run in the Czech Republic
  • T-Mobile also uses cooperation with local optics providers

Prague, 8th November 2019 - T-Mobile successfully fulfills its plan to cover one million domestic households by fiber network by the end of 2025. At the end of this year, the operator expects the number of households covered by fiber network to exceed 100,000. T-Mobile fiber network is the FTTH category, i.e. the optical fiber leads directly to the customer's home or house and uses 10GPON technology, which allows transfer rates of up to 10Gbit/s. It brings to the customers the most modern elements of Internet connection today, which excel in high reliability and quality compared to other technologies, such as wifi or cable metallic connection.

“The optical network is the future of T-Mobile. We assume that customers' interest in even faster data on the fixed network will continue to grow. This year, we have reached 100,000 households covered by optic network and we want to continue with deployment next year. Everything will depend on the pace of building approval and our ability to obtain construction permits. There are indeed many sites under negotiation. And of course, we also work with local ISPs,” says Juraj Bóna, Managing Director of T-Mobile Czech Republic.

The last example of successful implementation of the strategy is the acquisition of company Planet A, which became a subsidiary of T-Mobile as of 31 October 2019. Planet A is a successful telecommunications operator providing services in Prague under the brand “aim” and T-Mobile will strengthen with this acquisition its position in this important market.

T-Mobile will continue to expand the optical internet. The state of Internet connection in Czech towns and municipalities does not meet the growing demands of households and companies for high-quality and fast connection. The solution is optical internet, but according to Kantar survey, is available to only 15% of users, mainly in the largest cities. However, this will not be enough in the next few years. Municipalities that do not actively pursue the introduction of optical Internet will start to fall behind, just as if they had refused to introduce railways a hundred years ago.
