T-Mobile: 3G in five more cities

  • Fast mobile internet access for one-third of the Czech population
  • Newly in Karlovy Vary, Kladno, Most, Karviná and Opava

Prague, 30 September 2010 - T-Mobile is continuing to work intensively on the planned rollout of its 3G network. Following the record summer launch of base stations, high-speed mobile internet access is now available in five more cities. Residents of Karlovy Vary, Opava, Karviná, Most and Kladno can thus enjoy the fastest data technologies. In addition, T-Mobile, as the first Czech operator to do so, is continuing its changeover to the HSPA Plus technology.

Commercial operation of the 3G network was launched in January this year. Since then the extension of the rollout has accelerated rapidly and now customers from nineteen large Czech cities can enjoy high-speed internet access available under their data tariff plans and add-ons. In total, one-third of the Czech population is now covered.

Ninety-seven percent of residents in Karlovy Vary, 99% in Kladno, 95% in Most and Karviná and 91% in Opava can now enjoy the most modern network. Coverage has also been enhanced in Prague, Brno and Ostrava - 97% of the population of each city can now use 3G network services.

New as well as existing clients can still try the new mobile internet service free of charge. When ordering the Internet v Mobilu Standard or Internet v mobilu Klasik add-on, contract customers can browse the internet for one month free of charge. For users of prepaid Twist cards, the operator has prepared a free two-week trial of the Twist Surf+ service. The offer applies to the first activation of these bundles. Thanks to a special-edition of the Twist Internet SIM card for CZK 299 with a data limit of 500MB, customers now also have the possibility to try internet access in their notebooks. The price of the SIM card includes one month of free internet access and customers can top-up their credit for only CZK 249 per month until the end of the year.

In September, T-Mobile began upgrading its network to the HSPA Plus (Evolved High-Speed Packet Access) technology, which enables download speeds of up to 21 Mbps and upload speeds of up to 5.76 Mbps. T-Mobile will be the first operator to offer this technology in the Czech Republic. HSPA Plus enables faster data transmission and increases the capacity of the network, which will be prepared for a smooth changeover to the next-generation LTE services.

High-speed mobile internet access is now available to the residents of 19 Czech cities: Prague, Plzeň, Brno, České Budějovice, Olomouc, Pardubice, Hradec Králové, Zlín, Ostrava, Teplice, Prostějov, Havířov, Liberec, Ústí nad Labem, Karlovy Vary, Karviná, Kladno, Opava and Most. The rollout will continue and in total 30 cities should be covered by the end of this year; 500 cities should be covered by the end of 2012.
