T-Mobile expands its LTE-Advanced coverage

  • LTE-Advanced available in fifty-eight more towns and cities
  • Up to twofold increase of LTE speeds
  • One thousand LTE-Advanced base stations to be built by the end of this year

T-Mobile is continuing the announced rollout of the super-fast LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) technology: fifty-eight more locations offering download speeds of up to 150 Mbps have emerged on the map of the Czech Republic. By the end of the year, the number of the operator’s LTE-A base stations should reach nearly one thousand.

“Our priority remains to be the leader in technologies and innovations,” says Vladimír Klein, T-Mobile’s Technology Director, adding: “LTE-A technology is now available to 350,000 more people in the country’s regions.”

The operator has newly doubled the maximum speed in selected regions (from 75 Mbps to 150 Mbps). Customers in 58 towns and cities in the districts of Domažlice, Jindřichův Hradec, Klatovy, Písek, Plzeň, Příbram, Rakovník, Rokycany, Strakonice and Tábor can now enjoy a faster LTE experience.

LTE-A technology is based on the aggregation of two frequency bands (i.e. the carrier aggregation function).

The base stations in the districts listed above use the 800 MHz band (with the 10 MHz bandwidth) and 2100 MHz band (with the 10 MHz bandwidth). When combined, these bands allow maximum download and upload speeds of 150 Mbps and 50 Mbps, respectively. The handsets supporting the aggregation of these bands currently include the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge; the number of models supporting this technology will increase in future.

T-Mobile was the first operator in the Czech Republic to launch LTE-A. By aggregating the 800 MHz and 1800 MHz bands at the end of June 2014 in Mlaldá Boleslav and later making the technology available for half of Prague’s population, it increased the maximum download and upload speeds to 225 Mbps and 50 Mbps, respectively. The aggregation of the 800 MHz and 1800 MHz bands is currently supported by 16 types of handsets.

In December 2015, the operator combined three bands – 800 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz – in two locations, thus increasing the maximum speed in its network to 375 Mbps.
