T-Mobile G1 in stores from 30 January

  • First Android-powered phone on the continental European market
  • T-Mobile G1 allows high-speed Internet surfing and total convenience with Google services such as Google MapsTM and Google MailTM
  • Intuitive use thanks to Android software, the large touch screen, trackball and full keyboard
  • Personalization with attractive, innovative download applications from Android Market
  • Handset is available exclusively from T-Mobile Czech Republic for as little as CZK 1

The time has finally come: From January 30, 2009 the T-Mobile G1 will open up the mobile Internet experience to T-Mobile Czech Republic customers. By simply touching the screen with a fingertip or using the full QWERTY keyboard, users will be able to quickly and easily search for information online, browse the Web or find their way around quickly using Google Maps. Following the successful market launch of this unique handset in the United States and the United Kingdom, T-Mobile is now launching the T-Mobile G1 in Czech Republic- as well as Austria, Germany, Poland and the Netherlands. The T-Mobile G1 is the first cell phone in the world running the Android operating system. It includes an intuitive user interface as well as direct access to Google Search and to third-party applications through Android Market. On top of this are additional functions for mobile use. The handset has built-in GPS capability, which enables users to access their location information if they choose to. Other features include HSDPA for mobile bandwidths of up to 7.2 Mbit/s, WLAN, a built-in GPS compass, a five-row QWERTY keyboard, the trackball and the large, slide-out touch screen display with three user-friendly starting views.

"Our G1 gives users a superior mobile Internet experience," emphasized Hamid Akhavan, Chairman of the Board of Management of T-Mobile International AG. "We are proud now to offer this handset to our customers on the European continent. This sets an additional milestone in our strategy of offering innovative mobile Internet."

"Today's news is an important step for the Open Handset Alliance and Android," said Andy Rubin, Senior Director of Mobile Platforms for Google, "the T-Mobile G1 opens up the mobile web for millions of users and also gives third party developers the platform necessary to develop the next wave of killer applications."

Just one click away from the Google world
T-Mobile, Google and the handset manufacturer HTC have worked closely together to integrate the Android operating system and transmission technology for the T-Mobile high-speed network in the T-Mobile G1. One key result is that Google services, already known to millions of people from their desktop PCs, can now be used quickly and easily while on the move. The best example is the Google search engine - with auto-complete, users can access the information they need or the entertainment content they are looking for by entering a minimum of information. The T-Mobile G1's browser loads Internet pages very quickly as it is constantly connected to the Internet. Users can enlarge any section of an Internet page simply by touching the display. A phone number given on a web site can be dialed with just two clicks of the trackball; favorites can quickly be set up, several browser windows opened simultaneously, pages and parts of pages simply copied and pasted into a file, links easily forwarded and much more.

T-Mobile G1 customers also have simple access to the navigation service Google Maps which makes it no problem for them to find their current location and, if they wish, call up detailed directions. Google Maps also makes it possible to find individual addresses, such as hotels, restaurants or cinemas.

The T-Mobile G1 is the ideal platform for e-mail communication. Emails received via GMailTM are automatically pushed directly to the handset. Of course customers can use other e-mail services (POP3, IMAP) with the T-Mobile G1. The T-Mobile G1 can also automatically synchronize contacts and calendar entries, and the Google TalkTM Instant Messaging Service is available free-of-charge. Finally, sharing a cool video with others on YouTubeTM is as easy as sending a link via GMail.

Android Market
The T-Mobile G1 is the first cell phone in the world to enable access to Android Market with more than 700 applications from international developers already available. New services and applications are constantly being added. Customers can download games, social networking services and even mobile shopping with only a few clicks and personalize their cell phone.

One example of an exciting and successful application from Android Market is Wikitude. Wikitude provides descriptions of around 350,000 attractions worldwide. The highlight of the application is the special camera mode: It projects the local attractions onto the viewfinder of the T-Mobile G1's camera. They then appear as spots on the landscape being viewed - including corresponding information from Wikipedia if desired.
