T-Mobile has launched internal pilot operation of the Video over LTE (ViLTE) technology, which enables making high-quality video calls in the LTE network. The operator will offer this service, which is now being tested on Samsung Galaxy S6 edge devices, to customers in the coming months.

“After VoLTE and Wi-Fi calling, we are launching another innovative service, for the time being internally. Customers will be able to use ViLTE easily and without the necessity of installing or setting up anything,” says Milan Hába, Vice President Technology & Business Innovations at T-Mobile, adding: “All customers need to do before making a call is decide whether they want to just talk with their loved ones or whether they also want to see them and, depending on their decision, just press one of the two icons to establish a connection.”

The operator is the first (and so far only) Czech operator to have commercially launched mobile calling over LTE (VoLTE) and mobile calling over Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi calling) for its customers. Both services can be used by all customers using a device that supports the technology regardless of whether they are contract customers or prepaid card users.

VoLTE is currently available to more than 130,000 customers. The technology is supported by the Samsung Galaxy S5, S6, S6 edge, S7 and S7edge, iPhone 6, 6 plus, 6s, 6s plus and SE and Microsoft Lumia 550, 640 LTE, 650 and 950 handsets.

Wi-Fi calling is now available to nearly 155,000 customers using any of the Samsung Galaxy S6, S6 edge, iPhone 5c, 5s, 6, 6 plus, 6s, 6s plus and SE devices.
