T-Mobile launches a new Virtual Data Centre

  • The Virtual Data Centre offers infrastructure (IaaS) and platform (PaaS) cloud computing services
  • The service allows leasing of virtual infrastructure administered via a web-based interface
  • The solution supports all billing models and uses state-of-the-art technologies
  • It is supplied by Altron

Using state-of-the-art technologies, the new Virtual Data Centre (VDC) is operated in T-Mobile’s data centres and offers infrastructure and platform cloud computing services. “The introduction of the new Virtual Data Centre marks the creation of a service that logically fits into T-Mobile’s philosophy of being number one in data centres and secure handling of customer data,” says Martin Záklasník, Vice President Business Marketing and MNC at T‑Mobile. The new VDC will be available in summer 2016 for all customers from the segment of medium-sized and large companies and public administration.

Customers are no longer limited by physical IT infrastructure: together with applications, they can virtualise the infrastructure and use IT resources without the necessity of expensive investments. In the past, all new technologies required capital investments, setup time, training and recurring maintenance costs. The new VDC offers a radical change in the implementation of and payment for technologies. Customers can now choose the most appropriate billing method for cloud computing services, particularly thanks to new billing models (fixed, allocation, consumption-based and combined).

T-Mobile’s public cloud computing service uses the most advanced technologies provided by Cisco, HP and NetApp, with virtualisation arranged through VMware and KVM/OpenStack. “Our services are provided on a hardware platform that is fully administered by IT experts from T-Mobile. Customers are offered a full range of services, high security standards and broad possibilities of working with virtual servers and data centres. The new functionality can also be used when working with licences,” explains Antonín Zajíc, Leader of ICT Product Management at T‑Mobile.

Altron has been selected as the technology supplier. “We are very pleased that together with T-Mobile we were able to make use of our extensive experience with the development of software and virtual data centre and cloud computing administration and management solutions. However, this is also a commitment to maintain and improve the high quality of our services in the long run,” says Zbyněk Juřena, Director of Altron’s IT Division.
