The staging of Bernstein’s Mass is approaching; T-Mobile is the general partner

The new production of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass will be presented in six cities
Vojtěch Dyk will star in the lead role of the priest (celebrant)
T-Mobile will organise a competition to win free tickets before every performance

In commemoration of the 45th anniversary of its premiere, a new production of Leonard Bernstein’s legendary musical Mass is being prepared in the Czech Republic, with performances scheduled to be held in six cities. Vojtěch Dyk, a popular Czech singer and actor, will star in the lead role. The general partner of the project is T-Mobile, which will organise a competition to win free tickets before every performance of Mass.

“T-Mobile is the biggest innovator among Czech operators and the new production of Bernstein’s Mass is also an innovation in a way,” says Jan Stanko, Vice President Marketing Communication at T-Mobile, explaining why the company decided to become the general partner of the project. One week before every performance, T-Mobile will organise a competition on Facebook whose three winners will have a possibility to attend the event free of charge together with a friend or family member.

The premiere will take place on 6 March in Olomouc, followed by performances in České Budějovice, Brno, Ostrava, Prague and Hradec Králové. The lead role of the priest (celebrant) will be played by Vojtěch Dyk, who is also the producer of the new production of Mass. The directors are Michal and Šimon Cabani. A band was assembled specially for the project, with the key parts being performed by members of the B-SIDE BAND led by Josef Buchta. The organising agency of the project is BUJOART s.r.o.

The new production of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass has the potential to become one of the greatest musical and dramatic events in the Czech Republic in the past decade. This is the first staging of the abridged version of this work, which was specially adapted for a smaller multicomponent cast.

Mass was commissioned by Jacqueline Kennedy. Despite its mixed reception (outrage was sparked especially by the scene of the priest dancing at the altar), this piece is now viewed as one of the best works of classical music created in the 20th century.
