- Eight more regional towns to be covered by the end of September
Prague, 24 June 2010 - The expansion of 3G network coverage is going according to plan. T-Mobile customers can now use high-speed internet in two more cities, as the third-generation services are now available in Plzeň and Brno. Eight more regional towns will follow by the end of September.
"Our primary focus when building the network is its quality, so that we can deliver unique user experience to our customers when using high-speed mobile internet," says Frank Meywerk, T-Mobile's Technology Director, adding: "This summer, we will continue to both cover new areas and to expand coverage in the existing locations."
Plzeň residents have had the 3G icon displayed on their mobile phones since last week. High-speed mobile internet is now available to approximately two-thirds of the West Bohemian city's residents. Plzeň has thus become the second city after Prague to be covered by the 3G network.
Another location covered by the 3G network as of noon today is the largest Moravian city, Brno. Particularly in the city centre, local residents can now use one of the most modern 3G networks in the world. T-Mobile uses the Nokia Siemens Networks technology based on the HSPA standard, which theoretically enables download speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps.
This summer 3G services will also be extended to other regional towns. Residents of České Budějovice, Olomouc, Pardubice, Ústí nad Labem, Hradec Králové, Liberec, Ostrava and Karlovy Vary will enjoy fast mobile internet access by the end of September. In total, thirty major towns in the Czech Republic should be covered by the end of this year.
