Christmas Eve in the T-Mobile network 2006

T-Mobile customers sent more than 26 million SMS and made over 15 million calls.

Prague, 25 December 2006 - The mobile phone remains one of the favorite communication tools even on holidays, which is evident in this year?s statistics of the T-Mobile network's performance during Christmas. The favorite way of wishing family and friends a Merry Christmas remains the SMS message: T­Mobile customers sent 26.3 million text messages, a 21% increase over the same period last year. The total number of calls was the same as a year ago: 15.2 million. Total traffic in the network rose by more than 21 percent. The T-Mobile network handled the surge without a hitch.

T-Mobile customers made nearly 15.2 million calls on Christmas Eve, which is the same number of calls that were made on that day last year. The heaviest voice traffic was registered between 10:15 and 11:15 when about 1.2 million calls were made. The overall success rate of calls was higher than 99% at all times, even during the highest peak of the network traffic.


The number of sent SMS rose significantly. In total, customers sent more than 26 million such messages from their mobiles. Compared with last year, this represents an increase of more than 21 percent. As far as sending SMS is concerned, the busiest hour was between 11:30 and 12:30, while the busiest quarter of an hour for text messaging was the period between 11:30 and 11:45 when more than 689,000 messages were sent.

Multimedia messages are being used more and more often each year for sharing the joy that our customers have from the presents they give and receive: While in 2005 nearly 136,000 messages were processed by the MMS centre, this year more than 146,000 such messages were sent, which constitutes an increase of 8 percent. With regard to the Christmas season, customers sent more than 91,000 multimedia messages, which was 10 percent more than last year. As in the previous years, the highest number of MMS was sent after Christmas presents were unwrapped, i.e. between 20:00 and 21:00.

Total traffic in the network increased by more than 21 percent. The T-Mobile network reliably handled the Christmas Eve rush - no outages were registered.
