Ten years of content and entertainment: MAGENTA TV celebrates 10 years and adds Birthday Cinema

MAGENTA TV celebrates 10 years on the market this year. On this occasion, T-Mobile recalls the development of one of the first OTT television services in the Czech Republic and at the same time, from the beginning of May to the end of the month, it is including a special VOD channel called Birthday Cinema, whose program also includes the Oscar-winning documentary Mr. Nobody Against Putin.

MAGENTA TV was launched in May 2016 under the T-Mobile TV brand as one of the first OTT (over-the-top) TV services in the Czech Republic. It has undergone significant development over the past ten years and was used by 325 thousand customers at the end of 2025.

T-Mobile is also commemorating the anniversary with a program novelty. During the month of May, MAGENTA TV will include a special VOD channel Birthday Cinema, which will be dedicated to film hits and viewers will tune in to EPG position 19. It will also offer the Oscar-winning film Mr. Nobody Against Putin.

"In ten years, MAGENTA TV has transformed from a television service offering mainly linear broadcasting into a platform that combines it with viewback, Video Library and partner streaming services. In addition, customers can watch its content on any device. While at its launch it offered about 130 channels and 2 days of viewing, today it has about 180 channels and the opportunity to watch shows retrospectively for 7 days," adds Zdeněk Spurný, Tribe Lead TV and Beyond the core at T-Mobile.

The volume of available content has also increased significantly. Ten years ago, customers of the then T-Mobile TV had about 6,500 hours of content per day, today it is about 34,000 hours a day, i.e. more than five times. At the same time, viewers spent an average of 3.5 hours a day watching MAGENTA TV last year.

The Video Library is also becoming increasingly important within the service. The most watched titles in the Video Library since the beginning of 2026 are the fairy tale Three Brothers and the exclusive novelty Nuremberg, which, according to T-Mobile, confirms the strong interest in the combination of cult titles and new premium content.

Today's form of MAGENTA TV reflects primarily a long-term shift from the traditional TV model to a broader content platform with a strong emphasis on curatorial selection and its own Video Library.
