T-Mobile to Invest More than CZK 1 Billion from Ministry of Industry and Trade Subsidy Programme to Cover Underserved Areas with High-Speed Internet

T-Mobile Czech Republic has successfully applied for funding under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MPO) subsidy call " Vysokorychlostní internet – výzva I." (High-Speed Internet – Call I.)  as part of the Operational Programme Technology and Applications for Competitiveness (OP TAK). The operator submitted projects with a total implementation value of CZK 2 billion and was awarded funding for projects worth CZK 1.325 billion.

As part of the prepared projects, the operator will connect approximately 14,000 households in regions with insufficient broadband internet coverage to high-speed fibre-optic internet. The projects, which must be completed by mid-2029 in accordance with the subsidy conditions, will be implemented primarily in the Karlovy Vary, Trutnov, Pardubice, Šumperk, Ostrava, and Brno regions, as well as in the eastern part of the country.

The “High-Speed Internet” subsidy programme was announced by the Ministry of Industry and Trade with a total allocation of CZK 5.5 billion. Applications were accepted from 1 August 2024 to 31 December 2024 via the ISKP2021 portal. The main objective of the call is to increase the speed and quality of internet connectivity in the Czech Republic and to cover the remaining "white spots" – areas without high-speed connectivity – primarily through fibre-optic networks.

Projects must ensure internet connectivity speeds of at least 100 Mb/s in the targeted locations and meet VHCN (Very High Capacity Networks) parameters. The subsidy can cover up to 85% of eligible costs. Applicants are operators and entrepreneurs in the field of electronic communications, and supported activities include the construction of new or modernisation of existing access networks to VHCN parameters. Support is focused exclusively on designated "white spots".

"Over recent years, as we have significantly expanded our gigabit infrastructure and have made high-speed connectivity available to more than 1.4 million households in towns and villages across the country. With the support of this subsidy, we can continue to cover white spots in areas where building the necessary infrastructure is very costly, and where households have therefore not yet had access to high-speed connectivity," adds Carlos Fernandes, Chief Technology Officer at T-Mobile Czech Republic and Slovak Telekom.

Thanks to the implementation of projects supported by the High-Speed Internet subsidy, residents of previously uncovered areas will gain access to high-speed fibre-optic connectivity. Network construction will take place in several phases, with the clear objective of completing all projects no later than mid-2029. T-Mobile will build connections with speeds of up to 2 Gbit/s.

T-Mobile's high-speed internet coverage is currently available in more than 900 towns and cities. The operator continues to make substantial investments in infrastructure development – including network modernisation and the introduction of new technologies. In 2025 alone, these investments amounted to more than CZK 4 billion.
