T-Mobile is testing CV2X data technology for vehicles and infrastructure

T-Mobile is now testing the technology in pilot operation for the entire Deutsche Telekom Group in cooperation with Škoda Auto and the technology partner Qualcomm and with the assistance from the Czech Technical University in Prague and the Technical University of Ostrava. Within the pilot operation, which is the first in Europe in the C-Roads project, the radio parameters and possibilities of LTE-V are being verified in comparison with similar technologies.

Prague/Barcelona, February 25th - CV2X or LTE-V technology (LTE for Vehicles, sometimes also referred to as C-V2X) enables direct communication between vehicles and, at the same time, between a vehicle and smart transportation infrastructure. The operator is now testing the technology in pilot operation for the entire Deutsche Telekom Group in cooperation with Škoda Auto and the technology partner Qualcomm and with the assistance from the Czech Technical University in Prague and the Technical University of Ostrava. Within the pilot operation, which is the first in Europe in the C-Roads project, the radio parameters and possibilities of LTE-V are being verified in comparison with similar technologies. At this time, the application of LTE-V infrastructure for safety services are also being presented the new automotive technologies on the Deutsche Telekom’s stand at Mobile World Congress 2019 in Barcelona.

“Direct communication among vehicles and between a vehicle and infrastructure helps increase road safety. A driver obtains current information for the vehicle. Moreover, the infrastructure administrators are allowed to gain more detailed information about the traffic, which shortens operational time to manage it. It will also play a role in the development of autonomous transportation,” says Matěj Řáda, Innovation Manager at T-Mobile Czech Republic.

T-Mobile is also the supplier of two unique comprehensive solutions for transportation optimisation. The entire solution improves the functionality of smart transportation systems, thus facilitating the flow of traffic and gradual reduction of the number of accidents and associated injuries. It specifically includes services for drivers, which alert them to dangerous areas and traffic jams. Notifications are generated on the basis of several sources, namely an analysis of signalling data on the movement of customers in the operator’s mobile network, data from T-Mobile’s Smart Car product, weather information and other sources. T-Mobile has also been working on a mobile application that will display up-to-date traffic information.
