- A total of 594 volunteers took part in the One Day for People in Need programme last year
- More than 1,700 employees, incl. company management, participated in the project during the five years of its existence
Prague, 24 February 2010 - T-Mobile's volunteer project One Day for People in Need is looking back at its most successful year in history. In 2009, the total number of participants reached a record 594. Under the programme, the operator's employees have the opportunity to spend one day helping people in need each year. During the five years of the project's existence, T-Mobile staff donated over 1,700 days, i.e. more than four and a half years, to the non-profit sector.
"The number of nearly 600 participants means a 24-percent increase compared to 2008," says Jitka Chocová, T-Mobile's Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, adding: "Employees helped to 59 non-profit organizations in 11 Czech regions."
The T-Mobile employees who care for their environment can choose a non-profit organization from all over the Czech Republic at the special website at www.zapojimse.cz. There is a wide range of events both for individuals and volunteer teams. The regions where T-Mobile employees helped most often were Prague, Central Bohemia and the Hradec Králové region.
Environmental projects, programmes for children and youth, and events aimed at helping non-profit organizations providing social and health care services enjoyed the greatest popularity. Thirty-three volunteers were teaching senior citizens how to use mobile phones as part of the Senor Citizens Communicate programme that takes place in long-term partnership with T-Mobile. Similarly to the previous year, men predominated over women, albeit insignificantly: 56% vs. 44%. The largest number of participants spent their "One Day" in April, June and October, and the most popular day for volunteer work was clearly Friday.
"The ?One Day' project will continue this year. We would like to extend our help by offering non-profit organizations the expert skills of our employees, such as assistance in computer set-up, and marketing and PR consultancy," says Jitka Chocová.
The One Day for People in Need programme has been running at T-Mobile since 2005. As part of this project, employees can spend one day helping people in need or doing work that is beneficial to the community. During the "trial run" in the first year of the programme's existence, more than 100 employees took part. In five years, the total number of participants has exceeded 1,700.
