May 3G news from T-Mobile

  • 14 more towns and 44 smaller communities covered by the 3G network
  • The 3G network is available to 48.83% of the population of the Czech Republic
  • The first ten shared base stations have been put into operation

Prague, 31 May 2011 – At the end of May, T-Mobile is again publishing an update on the progress of its 3G network rollout. During this month, the operator covered 14 more towns and 44 smaller communities with the 3G network. The technology is now available to a total of 128 towns and 336 smaller communities. The 3G network coverage has thus increased to 48.83% of the population of the Czech Republic.

The country’s fastest data network is now available to, for example, the residents of Šumperk, Český Těšín, Strakonice, Náchod, Jirkov, Mělník, Dvůr Králové nad Labem, Nymburk, Poděbrady and a number of other towns and communities. The number of locations covered with the 3G signal will continue to increase in the coming months, as the operator plans to cover about 500 towns with this technology by the end of the year.

In February, T-Mobile and Telefónica Czech Republic announced their cooperation on 3G network sharing. This six-year cooperation project is aimed at making the internet available within the shortest time possible to the largest number of customers possible, even outside of densely populated areas. Following the pilot operation, commercial operation has been launched on the first ten shared base stations located in Humpolec, Hlinsko, Březnice, Dobříš and Volyně.

T-Mobile is still offering a free seven-day trial of internet access. Customers can thus test the speed of the network and signal strength in any location in the Czech Republic. All they need to do is visit any T‑Mobile shop and borrow, against a returnable deposit of CZK 2,000, a data SIM card with the Internet na cesty bundle together with the Huawei E1823 USB modem, which supports the HSPA+ technology.
