Robotour 2009 to be "monitored" by T-Mobile

  • Brno is to host the fourth edition of the outdoor robot competition Robotour 2009
  • Competing AI machines will be equipped with T-Mobile's monitoring system

Prague, 22 September 2009 - The fourth edition of the unique Robotour 2009 will take place in Brno this Saturday, 26 September. This year's competition of autonomous outdoor robots, which will compete in categories such as load transport, detection of barriers and freestyle, will be monitored by T-Mobile as the operator will provide all machines with SIM cards and GPS technology to keep track of their position.

"As evidenced by this example, our partnership solutions can have a myriad of different uses. With the same type of application as will be installed in the robots, our customers can monitor their own cars or a company fleet," says Jan Roule, Vice President Partnership & Wholesale at T-Mobile.

The robots' task will be to drive around a circuit of up to 1 kilometre in length within 30 minutes. The machines must be fully autonomous, not deviate from the track and make correct decisions at crossroads based on the preset map. Their position will be monitored via the GPS technology and T-Mobile network. Each robot will be equipped with a T-Mobile SIM card to report data on its current position. The heads of the teams and referees will thus always be aware of the movements of all machines on the circuit.

The starting line will also be the finish line for each participant. This year's edition of the competition is focused on the autonomy of the robots and their ability to cope with obstacles. Unlike in previous years, the teams will not know their starting position and interaction with the operator of the machines will be limited to setting up the circuit and starting the race.

Services similar to those provided to the participants of Robotour 2009 are also available to T-Mobile customers. T-Mobile's Partner Solution Program offers a number of solutions intended for locating private and company cars. However, modern M2M applications have many other functions. Businesspeople will certainly appreciate automatic mileage-book generation, information about the monitored car's speed as well as its location, fuel consumption and statistics and tools for planning and storing car fleet data. The complete offer is available in the Catalogue of Partner Solutions and at www.t-mobile.cz/partnership.
