SUMMER TRAFFIC AT T-MOBILE

Telephone traffic in Prague decreased by more than 50% during summer weekends
Top weekend destinations: the Český Krumlov region and the Jeseníky Mountains
Record breakers during summer weekends: the Vltava River between Lipno and Český Krumlov and Andělská Hora

Prague, 18 September 2013 – The statistics of summer voice traffic in the T-Mobile network show not only a significant drop in traffic during weekends in large cities but also indicate popular weekend destinations. While the Moravian weekend destination charts are topped by the Jeseníky Mountains, the most popular weekend pastime in Bohemia presumably is canoeing down the Vltava River.

During the summer, the average traffic on weekdays was significantly higher than on weekends, by a full 69%. If we take into account only calls in the 3G network, their volume on weekdays was higher by 105%.

The decrease in calls on weekends is much greater than the national average particularly in large cities. In Prague, which saw the biggest decline, Saturday and Sunday traffic reached only 43% of an ordinary weekday, while declines to 45% and 48% were registered in Brno and Plzeň, respectively. In České Budějovice and Mladá Boleslav, weekend traffic reached only 50.5% and 53%, respectively, as compared with weekdays.

On the other hand, the lowest decline in weekend voice traffic was reported in the Czech Republic’s three most popular recreational destinations: Český Krumlov in the South Bohemia region, Bruntál in the Moravia-Silesia region and Jeseník in the Olomouc region. On an average weekday, voice traffic in Český Krumlov is only 38% higher than on weekends, whereas the weekend decline is 31% lower than the national average; the volume of weekday calls in Bruntál is 39% higher than on the weekend and 40% in Jeseník.

A closer look at these locations clearly reveals the most popular weekend destinations: traffic on Saturdays and Sundays at Lipno Lake is 15% higher than on weekdays and 6% higher at Slezská Harfa Lake. Saturday afternoon peaks in Rožmberk and Zlatá Koruna are also evidently linked to tourism, as both locations are popular canoeing and camping areas on the Vltava River.

Some parts of the Český Krumlov and Bruntál districts also saw significant growth in mobile data traffic: data transmission in the 3G network increased to more than double the weekday volume in Kájov, Malonty and in the centre of Český Krumlov, and at Andělská Hora in the Bruntál district.

The operator is continuing to improve its network while providing the best user experience with fast data transmission. Independent measurements performed by the DSL.cz portal have confirmed that T-Mobile has the fastest 3G technology, as the operator has achieved the best measurement results for the 23rd time in a row. In order to ensure the best possible availability of services to its customers, the operator has teamed up with Telefónica Czech Republic, with which it has commenced negotiations on sharing all 2G and 3G transmitters (more information here).

Note: The statistics show traffic in the T-Mobile network in the period between 1 July and 18 August 2013.
