SURVEY: HOW DO PEOPLE AND COMPANIES PERFORM DURING HOME FROM HOME?

  • People are mostly satisfied and feel more efficient with working from home
  • The companies were not ready for the transition, but they managed finally

Prague, May 5, 2020 – Hundreds of thousands of Czechs have been working from home for a month and a half. According to a T-Mobile survey, about a third of people of working age are in the so-called home office. And their experience is mostly positive. Two thirds (68%) are satisfied with the possibility to work from home, only 13% of respondents evaluate this situation negatively. Sixty percent of people also said that their company was not ready for the transition. The survey for T-Mobile was prepared by the IPSOS agency in the second half of April, after a month of a state of emergency.

Employees are satisfied with working from home

According to the respondents, the main advantages of working from home include better concentration on work tasks (52%) and also more free time (52%) due to savings on the way to work. Three-quarters of respondents said they felt more efficient - they would do more work in the same time than in the office. About a quarter of respondents (27%) solve problems with procrastination. The biggest problem is younger people aged 26-34 (35% of them mentioned it as a problem). On the contrary, among people older than 45 years with well-established work habits, only 17% of respondents mentioned it as a complication.

Among other benefits of working from home, respondents mentioned more comfortable, informal clothing (42%) and a better opportunity to plan work tasks (38%). The disadvantages included long online meetings (24%) and less peace of mind at work (23%), which mainly concerns employees between the ages of 35 and 44 who have children in compulsory school. The biggest disadvantage of working from home is considered to be the lack of company of colleagues and the possibility of personal cooperation (52%).

Martina Kemrová, T-Mobile's communication manager, confirms that people working from home are satisfied and can work as efficiently as in the office: “The data can also be confirmed by the operation of our company. People quickly got used to digital ways of work, and many things became simpler. For example, organizing meetings: it is much easier to find a half-hour window on a video conference in the calendar of all participants and not to solve who could be physically present at that moment. "

By the way, the most used video conferencing platforms are Microsoft Teams (30%), Google Hangouts (20%) and Zoom (11%).

Readiness of companies for home office

The employees evidently managed the transition to work from home without major complications. And what about companies? A total of 60% of people said that their employer was not ready and had to introduce new measures. At the same time, 40% of respondents stated that the situation had stabilized after initial difficulties. However, one in five employees admitted that the transition to the new regime was accompanied by relatively large problems, to which the company was unable to respond flexibly. According to the experience of T-Mobile, which provides both connectivity and cloud solutions and software, these problems were mainly related to low connection speeds of companies, poor security, outdated IT systems. It also turns out that companies save on data tariffs of their employees. "During the first days of the epidemic, we additionally activated data on 23,000 SIM cards of our corporate customers and we had to increase the fixed Internet capacity of 15,000 DSL connections," explained Martina Kemrová from T-Mobile. According to her, T-Mobile provided almost a million (985,000) end customers from the corporate sector with unlimited data that T-Mobile offered during the emergency.
