T-Mobile employees are healthier than the rest of Czech population

  • As part of the Healthy Company program, T-Mobile employees were tested for cholesterol
  • Only 16 % of the participants have a higher cholesterol level
  • David Huf, World Champion in Sport Aerobics, prepared special exercise series for T-Mobile employees

Prague, 10 June 2009 - T-Mobile employees had their cholesterol level measured as part of the Healthy Company program. This measurement showed that only 16 % of T-Mobile employees who were tested for cholesterol have a higher level of cholesterol. According to several science studies, every second person has a higher cholesterol level, i.e. cholesterol level exceeding 5.2 mmol/l. Some scientists even estimate this number to be as high as 70 % of population; however the exact figures are not available. When a higher level of cholesterol is ascertained, it is necessary to undergo further blood testing. There are two cholesterol types present in blood: HDL cholesterol with protective function for blood vessels, and LDL cholesterol representing a risk of arthrosclerosis (blood vessel hardening).

Within the Healthy Company program launched last year, T-Mobile has been continuously focusing its attention to the health of its employees. Most health activities concentrate on prevention, including both preventive medical examinations carried out directly in the office free of charge and educational programs, massages, exercise programs for employees, or vitamin-rich food provided to employees within the Healthy Friday program.

"The health of our team is of great importance to us," says Barbora Stejskalová, Executive Vice President Human Resources for T-Mobile Czech Republic. "Investing into preventive measures with the aim to improve the health of all our colleagues is a vital and meaningful part of our HR strategy," adds Barbora Stejskalová.

Within the preventive health care for employees, T-Mobile introduced a system of office exercise in May. Exercise video program accompanied by an instruction brochure was prepared for T-Mobile by David Huf, renowned fitness specialist and World Champion in Sport Aerobics. It is an exercise series that can be easily performed directly in the office or at home without the necessity to visit a fitness centre. This exercise program covers fit-ball exercises, stretching exercises in the office, correct step walking, exercises during long car trips and other exercises intended for relaxing the muscles of the entire body.
