The jaXmobilem bezpečně project has its winners

  • Six teams of young people will receive money to realize their projects
  • Students will ask people about their mobile phone habits and show the negative side of the mobile communication: violation of privacy
  • Students will create "Mobile fairy-tales" and videos with the theme of safely using mobile phones

Prague, 11 September 2009 - The jaXmobilem bezpečně project promoting the safe use of mobile phones launched by T-mobile in cooperation with the civic association Aisis and Safeinternet.cz has already selected the six winning school teams. The teams will share CZK 147,000 donated from the T-Mobile Fund. The student teams from elementary schools and secondary six- to eight-year grammar schools from around the country have received their checks and will now implement their ideas.

The aim of the jaXmobilem bezpečně project detailed at www.jaxmobilem.cz is to draw attention to cyber-bullying, which is a common phenomenon in the higher grades of elementary schools and at secondary schools. The task of the contestants is to create a project that will show young people how to use mobile phones safely and warn against the risks related to using them.

"We were surprised how creative the children were. The six selected projects will definitely help young people to understand the risks related to using mobile phones; they'll pay more attention to their privacy and think more about whether they aren't violating the privacy rights of their schoolmates," said Jitka Chocová, CSR manager of T-Mobile and member of the competition jury.

The winners

Pavlovice Street Elementary School in Brno captured the jury's attention with its "Shock Treatment" project. Students will be collecting the most interesting photos on the theme "What's going on when the teacher isn't looking" and select the winning photo. The photos will later be displayed so that everyone can see himself/herself. Not all the photos are pleasant; this will help the students realize where the limits of their privacy are.

Students from the Nová Paka Grammar School will interview their  fellow citizens about their mobile phone habits. Exemplary residents will be awarded a white goat sticker, a symbol of clear conscience; those who give incorrect answers will get a black cat. And those who offend only occasionally will get away with a zebra sticker.

Students of the Kneslova Elementary School in Brno came up with the idea of interconnecting mobile phones and geocaching, i.e. treasure hunting by means of GPS. The project will start off with a film showing how embarrassing it is to bully someone, record a video of it and post it on the web. Unlike the idea of using mobile phones for treasure hunting, such videos are definitely not appreciated by the beautiful Denisa, the film guide.

Students from the Rozmarýnova Elementary School in Most will involve their parents in the project. Students may participate in various ways - write a short story or a fairy-tale, or prepare an art, music or multimedia presentation. The art works will be used as part of a week-long anti-cyber-bullying campaign combined with an auction. The proceeds will be donated to charity.

Students of Trutnov Grammar School will shoot a film about the responsible use of mobile phones. Four students will show their contemporaries that complying with basic rules while using a mobile phone does not hurt anyone.

Future teachers from the Secondary Pedagogical School and Grammar School in Nová Paka prepared a joint "Fairy-Tale Calling" project. By means of telling a fairy-tale, they will show the youngest ones who already use mobile phones but still watch and read fairy-tales the basics of safely using mobile phones.

About the project
The jaXmobilem bezpečně project forms part of a long-term T-Mobile project called jaXmobilem. For three years, this project has enabled T-Mobile to support activities which help people to learn to use mobile phones responsibly. This year's topic of cyber-bullying was preceded by last year's recycling campaign and by the topic of mobile etiquette the year before that. For more information, please visit www.jaxmobilem.cz.
