3G network: Ten largest Czech cities covered as of September 1

  • Fast mobile internet access now available in 14 cities - most recently in Prostějov, Havířov, Liberec and Ústí nad Labem
  • Record 260 transmitters activated in August
  • T-Mobile to offer the HSPA+ technology as the first Czech operator

Prague, 1 September 2010 - The T-Mobile 3G network has undergone intense development over the summer, during which the network has been extended not only to the ten largest cities in the Czech Republic, but also to four other cities: residents of Prostějov, Havířov, Liberec and Ústí nad labem can thus now try fast mobile internet access. Apart from the continuous rollout, T-Mobile will be the first and only operator in the Czech Republic to start the changeover to the HSPA+ technology tomorrow.

"Fast mobile internet access is now available to nearly 30% of the population," says Frank Meywerk, Technology Director at T-Mobile, adding: "This, of course, is not enough; we are continuing the rollout at the same pace. By the end of the year, a total of thirty cities will be covered, and five hundred by 2012."

Just in the last week of August four new cities were added to the list. In Prostějov, fast mobile internet access is available to 97% of residents, and 99% in Havířov. In North Bohemia 98% of Liberec residents and 89% of people in Ústí nad Labem can enjoy the fast connection. In total, the 3G services are provided to nearly one-third of T-Mobile customers in 14 cities of the Czech Republic. A record 260 transceiver stations were activated in August, which is the largest number in the 14-year existence of T-Mobile/Paegas.

On September 1, T-Mobile will start upgrading the network to the HSPA+ technology (Evolved High-Speed Packet Access), which enables speeds of up to 21 Mbps (download) and 5.76 Mbps (upload). The changeover will run until the end of October this year. T-Mobile is the only operator in the Czech Republic to offer this technology. Apart from a faster data transmission, HSPA+ also increases the network capacity so that a greater number of customers can use it.

New as well as existing clients can try the new service free of charge. When ordering the Internet v Mobilu Standard or Internet v mobilu Klasik add-on, contract customers can browse the internet for one month free of charge. For users of prepaid Twist cards, the operator has prepared a free two-week trial of the Twist Surf+ service. The offer applies to the first activation of these bundles.

Customers can enjoy fast data access in the following 14 cities:

  • Prague
  • Plzeň
  • Brno
  • České Budějovice
  • Olomouc
  • Pardubice
  • Hradec Králové
  • Zlín
  • Ostrava
  • Teplice
  • Prostějov
  • Havířov
  • Liberec
  • Ústí nad Labem

As of September, the 3G network enabling fast data access will gradually be launched for residents of four more cities: Karlovy Vary, Karviná, Kladno and Most.
