Christmas Eve 2012 in the T-Mobile network

Prague, 25 December 2012 – Unlike in previous years, Christmas Eve traffic in the T-Mobile network rose slightly by approximately 4%, mainly thanks to an increase in data traffic. The total number of calls dropped slightly by less than 3% to approximately 16.3 million. People still most commonly choose a text message for their Christmas wishes, though this year the SMS centre processed "only" 26.3 million, which constitutes a year-on-year decrease of almost 4%. This year, the number of multimedia messages (MMS) grew significantly again – the MMS centre received 336,577 MMS, over 21% more than last year. As compared with the previous year, overall data traffic increased by 110%.

Many Czechs call their family and friends on Christmas Eve. The total number of incoming and outgoing calls reached nearly 16.3 million, which is a year-on-year decrease of less than 3%. Similarly as in the previous year, the heaviest voice traffic was between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., when nearly 1.6 million calls were made. Increased traffic was also recorded between 7:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m., when people called one another to share their impressions of their Christmas presents.

The total number of text messages processed by the T-Mobile SMS centre on Christmas Eve decreased year-on-year for the third time – this year by nearly 4% to 26.3 million. The busiest SMS hour was between 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., when the SMS centre processed more than 2.4 million messages. During the busiest quarter of an hour from 12:45 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., 609,000 messages were processed.

Multimedia messages (MMS) again saw an increase this year: their number reached nearly 337,000, representing a rise of 21%. This year, the heaviest MMS traffic was recorded between 12:45 p.m. and 1:45 p.m. More than 29,000 multimedia messages sent via mobile handsets, external applications and the internet were processed by the MMS centre during this hour.
