Electronic Beats returns to Prague

Prague, 7 March – The international music program Electronic Beats returns  to the Prague’s Divadlo Archa theatre after last year’s sold out event and its organisers will present one of the best contemporary vocalists, Erlend Oye, and his latest music project – The Whitest Boy Alive. Electronic Beats will also bring to Prague a music sensation of 2011 – Woodkid, a French musician called Yoann Lemoine, who is also known as the director of music videos by Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry and Moby. The third confirmed act is Grimes, a Canadian musician and originally a “pop star” of American music blogs, who released her latest album, Visions, under a respected British label. Advance sales of Electronic Beats start today. The event will take place on Saturday, 5 May.

Electronic Beats has returned to the Czech Republic every year since 2006, when the series of music performances in the Prague’s Veletržní Palác was kicked off with a concert of Prodigy, followed by performances of other bands such as Underworld and The Orb. Later, the international music program appeared in the club environment of Lucerna Music Bar and last year the shows were performed at Divadlo Archa. In addition to concerts of leading contemporary bands and music projects, the organisers of the project, which has been taking place across Europe since 2000, focus on perfect visual projections accompanying individual performances. This year‘s program, which has not been finalised yet, offers the hottest musicians who perform at music events worldwide.

The Whitest Boy Alive started as an electronica project in 2003, but has slowly evolved into a band without programmed electronic elements. The distinctive voice of the Norwegian Erlend Oye, who is also known as a singer of the famous Nordic duo Kings of Convenience, could also be heard in the songs of the Nordic band Röyksop, who invited him to collaborate. The Whitest Boy Alive was established by Erlend Oye in Berlin together with the respected producer Marcin Öz and currently they are playing as a four-piece band whose music style now represents the best of the contemporary indie pop/rock scene. At their Prague concert, they will introduce their latest album, Rules

The young Canadian performing under the name Grimes (Claire Boucher from Vancouver) uses a very tender singing style as one of her main musical weapons. Grimes was not afraid to offer her early albums as free downloads on the internet. In this way, she relatively soon became a star of American music blogs, in particular after releasing the Darkbloom album, which she released together with the Montreal-based producer and singer Dwight d'Eon. Grimes sometimes sounds like a pop star from another planet and does not hide her admiration for artists such as Mariah Carey, Alicia Keys and Enya. No wonder that right after Darkbloom she was signed to the legendary U.K. label 4AD, where she released her latest album, Visions. Music critics describe her as a remarkable result of combining electronica, pop and classical singing.

The French music project Woodkid won the world’s interest not only with an absolutely perfect production of the video for the single “Iron”, which has won widespread recognition and features British supermodel Agyness Deyn. Woodkid is one of the biggest discoveries of the past year. Yoann Lemoine with his EP Iron, which is only the first small chance to sample the upcoming album The Golden Age, promises a lot of hope for the future. After collaborating with a number of outstanding musicians, his own album is now highly anticipated. It will be very hard to pigeonhole Woodkid in any particular genre, as the singer-songwriter with a hypnotic voice is able to surprise not only with his music, but also with sound and a strong visual aspect.
