Hradec Králové on wheels

  • On Sunday, 14 September, the East Bohemian capital will be flooded with human-powered modes of transport
  • T-Mobile is the general partner of the 7th annual sports and cultural event called "City on Bikes"

Prague, 11 September 2008 - The "City on Wheels" event, which will take place in Hradec Králové this year for the seventh time, will again promote all kinds of human-powered modes of transport - from bikes, in-line skates and scooters to prams and wheelchairs. In addition to healthy exercise, participants can also enjoy lots of fun within a rich accompanying program. The event, which will start at 9:00 this Sunday, was prepared by the Sport pro všechny (Sport for All) regional association in Hradec Králové. T-Mobile is the General Partner of the event.

"Cooperation with the Sport pro všechny association has been successful for several years. We have been supporting the "City on Wheels" project since its second year," says Martina Kemrová, Senior Head of Corporate Communication at T-Mobile. "The event promotes a healthy lifestyle and exercise, while good fun and meeting neighbors and people with similar interests are certainly part of it," she adds.

A safe ride through Hradec Králové on Sunday will be ensured by both city and national police. Along the route, participants can enjoy a wide range of cultural events including concerts. "The ride is not a race, but there will be several competitions," says Eva Víšková, secretary of the Sport pro všechny regional association in Hradec Králové. "There will be prizes for the biggest family team, and for the youngest and the oldest participants. Other prizes can be won in a drawing."

The budget of the event is approximately CZK 220,000, of which the T-Mobile Fund covers almost one-half and the rest is provided by private sponsors, city hall and the Hradec Králové region. "Around 1,200 participants take part in the "City on Wheels" program each year. This year, we are ready to welcome a similar number of visitors," says Eva Víšková.

The idea and the know-how of the event have spread from Hradec Králové to several other Czech towns including one of Prague's city districts. At the beginning of September, a "City on Wheels" event took place in the town of Louny, also with support from the T-Mobile Fund.

The T-Mobile Fund is now in its fourth year. Funding designated for the Hradec Králové region is administered by the VIA Foundation, which out of a total of 118 applications has selected 36 projects that will receive support in the total amount of CZK 2 million.
