More than 40,000 users familiar with the jaXmobilem rules

  • More than 40,000 visitors have viewed the website of the unique mobile etiquette project
  • Over 4,500 people participated in a survey of the behaviour of mobile phone users
  • Half of the respondents know how to use the phone without disturbing others

Prague, 12 December 2006 - Over 40,000 visitors have viewed the unique project of mobile etiquette presented at www.jaXmobilem.cz since its launch 9 months ago. And more than 4,500 of these visitors participated in a survey of the manners in which people use their mobile phones. The results indicate that overall half of the respondents use the phone with a maximum consideration for the people around and that only 2% of them have a serious problem with the mobile etiquette. Over 1,300 visitors of the website have also participated in the contest for the best answer to the question "What does a mobile phone mean to me?"

T-Mobile's launch of the jaXmobilem project originated from a survey of the behaviour of Czech mobile phone users, carried out exclusively for T-Mobile by the IBRS agency in December 2005. The results have shown that 56% of Czech mobile phone users would welcome some rules on how to use the mobile phone in a correct and considerate way. The survey has also shown that about 70% of drivers use their mobile phones while driving and 28% hold it in their hand.

"The mobile phone has become part of our everyday life in the Czech Republic. And T-Mobile, as an operator servicing the highest number of customers in the market, shares the responsibility for the way that the behaviour of mobile phone users affects people around them," says Martina Kemrová, spokesperson for T­Mobile, adding: "That is why we decided to create the unique mobile etiquette project which demonstrates, in a humorous way, how to use the mobile phone in a manner that would not disturb others, jeopardize the user, or harm the environment."

The rules and suggestions of the jaXmobilem project are incorporated into illustrations featuring Mr. X and other characters, created by the cartoonist Štěpán Mareš. The illustrations demonstrate the correct and discreet way of using the mobile phone. All rules of the etiquette are summed up in the Ten Mobile Commandments that are easy-to-follow and also accompanied with a funny illustration showing the possible consequences of breaching a given rule. In a special section of the website, visitors can also learn about recycling of mobile phones.
