New T-Mobile Universal SIM Card - Easy Access to All Services

  • More telephone contacts and incoming SMS can be saved on the new SIM card
  • T-Mobile GSM Banking provides customers with control over their bank accounts with greatest convenience out of all operators
  • The Universal SIM Card allows easy access to a wider portfolio of services

Prague, 26 August 2003 - T-Mobile is gradually switching to a new, advanced SIM card type containing a number of improvements and supporting all services. The Universal SIM Card is a functional replacement for all existing SIM cards (banking, Navigator, Profi SIM), allowing the customer to use, for example, Navigator, Locator and GSM Banking at the same time. "In addition, the new card provides our customers with more memory for phonebook entries and incoming SMS, improved T-Mobile GSM Banking, an extended range of SIM Toolkit menu services and many other services," says Jiří Hájek, press spokesman for T-Mobile, explaining the advantages of the card.

More memory
Thanks to the phonebook on the SIM card, customers always have their contacts at hand, even if using several mobile phones - they just need to insert their SIM card into their phone. Unlike the existing SIM card (with 200 entries, some older types only 125), the new Universal SIM contains 250 phonebook entries. The same applies to the text messages saved: more space is reserved for incoming messages - the card can hold 15 SMS.

Improved GSM Banking
The Universal SIM Card allows applications of two banks to be loaded on the card instead of just one. With the new card, only T-Mobile offers a control menu which is tailor-made to fit each separate bank and thus it better reflects its range of services. Furthermore, if the bank extends the portfolio of its services, the customer does not have to go anywhere and can update the banking menu remotely via OTA technology. The application has been developed in co-operation with Giesecke & Devrient (G&D). "This specific banking service is another step in the partnership between T-Mobile CZ and G&D. Already in 1999, we jointly launched the first mobile banking application in Europe," comments Dr. Klaus Vedder, Head of the Telecommunications Division at G&D.

Wide range of services in the SIM Toolkit menu
A wider portfolio of services available via the SIM Toolkit menu will help customers obtain the information they need conveniently and quickly (for example, news, travel timetables, translation of an expression from or into a foreign language and other information) or have fun with a number of entertainment services such as jokes, horoscopes or riddles offered within SMS Info. Owners of MMS-enabled phones can have various types of information (including erotic) sent as multimedia messages, containing both text and pictures. A number of new businesses or services which can be looked up using the mobile phone have also been added to the Navigator service. Last but not least, users will now be able to access SMS Chat directly from the SIM Toolkit menu.

State-of-the-art technology
The T-Mobile Universal SIM Card is based on the Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) platform developed specially for T-Mobile group operators. It contains the latest encryption algorithm for access to both the second (GSM) and third (UMTS) generation mobile networks. It has a memory of 64 kB and supports the JavaCardTM standards.

Price of the Universal SIM Card
In the case of new activations, contract customers will pay the price based on the activation price list for the new Universal SIM Card, Twist customers will pay the price of the set; a separate Twist card will cost CZK 499 incl. VAT. Universal SIM Cards will be distributed gradually as the stocks of the present SIM cards and prepaid sets with older card types are sold out. A SIM card exchange costs CZK 400 excl. VAT; Universal SIM Cards are already available for exchange, particularly at T-Mobile Retail Shops.
