Prague, 1 January 2007 - Traffic in the T-Mobile network on the last day of 2006 and during the first hour of the new year again testified to the fact that Czech people can hardly do without their mobile phones when sending their Happy New Year wishes. All measured values were higher than a year ago -network traffic, the number of sent SMS and MMS as well as the number of calls made. The T-Mobile network ably handled the New Year's demand for connection.

The total traffic in the T-Mobile network increased by almost 18 percent. The number of calls made increased year on year by about 8.3 percent while the year-on-year increase in SMS was even higher - 9.3 percent. The MMS centre also experienced a higher volume of traffic than last year - the number of multimedia messages increased year-on-year by eight percent and the MMS centre processed nearly 117 thousand such messages.

In total, T-Mobile customers sent approximately 13.2 million SMS within the monitored period. As in previous years, T-Mobile customers were most active between midnight and one o'clock in the morning when they sent about 3.1 million SMS. And the minute right after midnight saw the highest number of sent SMS: 691,000.

T-Mobile customers made almost 12.1 million calls, which is a year-on-year increase of 8.3 percent. The highest number of calls was made during the first hour of the new year. And the absolute peak was achieved between 0:15 and 0:30 when more than 2.4 million calls were made.

The growing popularity of MMS was also evident on New Year's Eve. T-Mobile's MMS centre processed 117,000 MMS, marking a year-on-year increase of 7.9 percent. T-Mobile customers sent most of these MMS (70,000) from their phones. There were two peaks in MMS traffic - at 9:15 and at 18:15.

All data concerning the network traffic relate to the period between 00:00 on 31 December 2006 and 1:00 on 1 January 2007 (a 25-hour period) and they were compared with the data measured during the same period last year.
