  • Only a few people associate freedom with property; for the majority of them it means a feeling and the freedom to make decisions
  • The website dealing with mobile internet has been visited by over 10,000 people
  • The jury will include, for example, writer and editor-in-chief of www.mobilmania.cz Marek Lutonský

Prague, 22 July 2004 - As many as 1,500 people have expressed their ideas of what freedom is at www.volnostjekdyz.cz. Overall, there have been approximately 15,000 visitors to the website since its launch on 15 June. It is apparent from the contributions that a great many of us associate freedom particularly with the freedom to make decisions. Contributions such as "The possibility of always telling the truth? or "Freedom is the sum of courage and abilities? are typical examples of the prevailing type of answers.
Money plays a part as well and there were several contributions similar to the following: "To have such an account balance that I wouldn't be dependent on work but could work just for pleasure, wherever I want and whatever I want, which, speaking in concrete figures, is about 60,000,000 Czech crowns.?
There were also purely practical views of the matter, such as this one: "To feel free, I would have to have a housekeeper who would clean the house and cook for me. I could then spend my time with my daughter and doing my job, which are two things I love?.
Many people associate freedom with mobile use of the internet, which is exactly the thing the website at www.volnostjekdyz.cz wants to draw attention to. Examples of this are contributions such as: "Freedom is the sound of the falling snow, freedom is when the sun decides to glow, freedom is when GPRS has its show on the road? or "To connect to the net on every tree stump, anywhere in the world, without having to watch the price. Plus as low a monthly fee as possible - even a divorce is worth it!?
There were some sceptics as well: "Absolute freedom - to use the magic ring and make all mobile technologies on the planet disappear?. Also the following curiosity is worth mentioning: "Freedom is when I'm not doing time in the Mírov prison?.

The website is operated within a special project of T-Mobile organized in cooperation with the Czech representation of IBM and selected media with the aim of explaining the difference between fixed and mobile internet connections. "In comparison with T-Mobile customers in other countries, Czechs are the most active users of new technologies and, in particular, data products. The interest in www.volnostjekdyz.cz proves how technologically advanced they are. The project will continue until the end of August and we hope to welcome at least another 20,000 customers to the website,? says press spokesman for T-Mobile T-Mobile Jiří Hájek.

The project will conclude with a selection of the best contributions on the theme of "Freedom is when?? The five-member jury will include, in addition to T-Mobile representatives, the famous writer Petr Šabach (author of Opilé banány, the novel on which the film Pupendo was based, and Šakalí léta, the basis of the film of the same name), Monika Pavlíčková, Marketing and Communications Director at IBM Česká republika, and Marek Lutonský, editor-in-chief of the magazines Mobility and MobilMania.cz www.mobilmania.cz.

Those who have contributed their ideas of freedom can win, as the main prize, a top-class IBM ThinkPad T41 notebook along with the T-Mobile Option Globetrotter data card and a free mobile connection to the internet for a year. Other prizes are T-Mobile MDA II and T-Mobile Option Globetrotter - all this with the T-Mobile Data Unlimited tariff free of charge for a whole year. An additional 17 winners will receive a SIM card with the T-Mobile Data Unlimited tariff for three months free of charge.
