T-Mobile Fund: 375 grant applications

  • 20% increase in the number of applicants compared to last year
  • T-Mobile to donate CZK 3.1 million to the Fund this year
  • Results of tenders to be announced at the end of June

Prague, 14 May 2007 - A record number of applications have been filed within the T-Mobile Fund grant program during the third year of its existence. By Friday, 27 April, the VIA Foundation and the Community Foundation of Euroregion Labe that jointly administrate the Fund received a total of 375 projects, both from the regions in which the operator has its offices and from the T-Mobile Employee Fund. This year, CZK 3.1 million will be distributed among the successful non-profit organizations whose names will be announced at the end of June.

The number of applicants from the three regions that T-Mobile is supporting over the long term - Louny, Hradec Králové and City District Prague 11 - increased again this year. Compared to the 206 applications filed last year, the number of projects reached 242 in 2007. The Community Foundation of Euroregion Labe, responsible for the district of Louny and the VIA Foundation, which is in charge of the remaining two regions, will distribute the total amount of CZK 2.1 million among the applicants.

"We are pleased about the growing interest from applicants, which is proof of the fact that we have taken the right course. Thanks to the money from the T-Mobile Fund, a number of useful projects have been implemented and this year will be no exception," says Jitka Chocová, T-Mobile's Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.

The opportunity to apply for a financial contribution from the T-Mobile Fund has also been used by institutions other than non-governmental non-profit organizations, for example by institutions receiving contributions from the state budget, municipalities and associations of municipalities. This year, the TMobile Fund has also recorded great interest from primary schools and kindergartens.

The submitted applications focus on the areas of local development and community social services eligible for support. As in the previous years, the range of projects is very broad, including plans for the restoration of local historical landmarks, redesign of village squares and common public areas. One of the frequent topics is the renovation and safety of playgrounds and sports grounds for children and youths in cities, towns and villages. Some of the proposals focus on improving the quality and extending the range of services for disabled persons and senior citizens. Many projects seek financial support for cultural events and activities for tourists visiting the respective regions.

The second year of the T-Mobile Fund grant program for employees has also been concluded. Within this program, the operator's employees can recommend that any non-profit organization, which is well known by the given employee, receive financial support. The VIA Foundation and the Community Foundation of Euroregion Labe received a total of 133 project proposals this year. At least one million Czech crowns will be distributed from the T-Mobile Employee Fund.
