T-Mobile instrumental in the construction of a children?s park and other projects

  • The T-Mobile Fund contributed funds to a new, safe playground for children in Blatno
  • The projects supported within this year's grant program include, among other things, the "City on Bikes" sports and cultural event organized by the city of Louny

Prague, 4 September 2008 - On Saturday, 6 September, the city of Louny will hold the fourth annual "City on Bikes" event. The bike ride, which will criss-cross the city along streets closed for cars, will start at 9:30 at Komenského náměstí and finish around 3:00 p.m. in front of the city hall at Mírové náměstí. In the nearby town of Blatno, works will be finishing on the project to open a new, safe park for children. Both projects received contributions within the fourth annual T-Mobile Fund grant program.

"The construction of a playground, preparation of an educational cycling program and other similar activities represent the praiseworthy efforts to do something useful for others. These projects deserve grants from our Fund," says Martina Kemrová, Senior Head of Corporate Communication at T-Mobile.

A children's bike race and much more
As part of the event in Louny, children can take part in a race in which they will follow signs to the finish in the morning hours at the playground at Masarykovy sady (Masaryk Gardens). An extensive accompanying program has been prepared for the afternoon at Mírové náměstí. A highlight of the program will be the popular Louny orchestra led by Jaroslav Klein, who is organizing "City on Bikes" for the fourth year in a row. Also, all participants can look forward to a visit by the famous Czech cyclist Radek Šimůnek.

"We want to offer people a bit of non-traditional sports and an entertaining afternoon," says Eva Jirásková, Manager of the Louny Information Centre. "Last year 220 people participated in this event. This year, weather permitting, we are expecting many more visitors because the event has become quite popular."

A new playground for children in Blatno
The children's park in Blatno has been built on unused plot of land covering approximately 700 square meters. "It's at a good location, between the city hall and a restaurant," says Mayor Václav Beneš, describing the location with a smile. The mayor received a number of requests for the construction of a children's playground particularly from local mothers. It was obvious that a well-organized project would benefit the entire town, help improve the environment and bring neighbors closer together.

In the park, there are already a jungle-gym, a slide, a climbing wall and benches. Work is currently being completed on a slalom for small bicycles. All that remains is to deposit 20 tons of gravel around the playground equipment. The total budget of the project amounts to nearly CZK 150,000, of which CZK 80,000 was contributed by the T‑Mobile Fund.

"Children can't wait to see the new playground. When we started construction and were only preparing the earthwork, they were walking around and already looking forward to using the playground. We are planning the ceremonial opening for 20 September," says Mayor Václav Beneš.

The T-Mobile Fund is now in its fourth year. Funding designated for the Louny region is administered by the Community Foundation of Euroregion Labe, which has selected 36 projects out of a total of 111 applications from this region to receive a total amount of CZK 2 million.
