T-Mobile launches employee collection for Haiti

  • More than CZK 150,000 raised during the first day
  • T-Mobile to match the amount donated by T-Mobile employees

Prague, 15 January 2009 - All people who help others have our respect and we also want to extend a helping hand. T‑Mobile employees have already donated more than CZK 150,000 to help the victims of the devastating earthquake in Haiti. T-Mobile will then match the total amount collected and transfer the entire sum to the account of Charita ČR (Caritas CR).

Haiti, an island state located in the Great Antilles in the Caribbean Sea, was hit by a massive earthquake on Tuesday, damaging almost all buildings in the capital city, Port-au-Prince, including schools, hospitals, the presidential palace, parliament and the local UN headquarters. T-Mobile therefore launched the collection of donations from employees for the victims of this natural disaster.

Beginning yesterday, all employees can take part in the collection to raise money for Haitian earthquake relief. More than CZK 150,000 has already been raised in less than 24 hours. T-Mobile will match the total amount collected and transfer the entire sum to the account of Charita ČR, one of the few European organizations that have long been providing assistance directly in Haiti. It can therefore rely on its long-term experience and contacts, thus making sure that the donations are used, in cooperation with its partners, in the most efficient manner.

Charita ČR has already released CZK 500,000 of the money raised during the recent Three-Kings Collection, to which T-Mobile has also contributed, for immediate assistance. The organization is now coordinating mainly the most essential relief activities, such as the provision of food, water, medication, tents, gas cookers, electricity generators, etc.

In addition to donating money within the employee collection, T-Mobile employees as well as others can also help by sending a DMS with DMS HAITI to 87 777.
