T-MOBILE'S LTE NETWORK IN COMMERCIAL OPERATION AND WITH EXPANDED COVERAGE

The operator will launch standard operation of its LTE network tomorrow
Prague coverage has been extended to cover one-third of the capital’s population
T-Mobile’s LTE network supports smartphones including, exclusively in the Czech Republic, iPhones

Prague, 30 September 2013 – T-Mobile will put its LTE network in Prague and Mladá Boleslav into commercial operation on 1 October 2013. The operator has also significantly extended coverage of the Czech Republic’s capital – 26% of its territory (mainly in the Prague 4 district) and 33% of its population is now covered with this network. By the end of the year, roughly one half of Prague’s population should be covered. Further development of LTE is closely linked with the outcome of the upcoming spectrum auction.

“T-Mobile has the fastest 3G network in the Czech Republic and also wants to be the leader in 4G technology. Before launching commercial operation, we have carefully tested the LTE network and the readiness of all our technologies. We are the only Czech operator to have successfully passed the joint testing with Apple and its iPhone devices,” says Milan Hába, Vice President Category & Product Management at T-Mobile.

Beginning on the first day of October, LTE will be accessible to all T-Mobile customers who have an activated data plan, are in a location covered by the LTE network and have an LTE-enabled device. T-Mobile’s LTE network is available to an ever increasing number of smartphones (including voice calls), tablets and modems – for example the Sony Xperia Z1, BlackBerry Q10, HTC One, Samsung Galaxy S4 and the iPhone 5, 5c and 5s models. Devices will be connected to LTE automatically without the necessity of logging in to the network, as was the case in the preceding trial operation (which will be terminated upon the commercial launch of the network). Downloaded data will start to be included in the data limit as is standard practice with other technologies.

The maximum download speed of 100 Mbps and upload speed of 37.5 Mbps will be available with the Mobilní internet (“Mobile Internet”) 10GB and higher plans and the S námi bez hranic/ S námi bez hranic+ (With us without Borders/With us without Borders+) plans. In the case of the other new-generation plans, the maximum download and upload speeds in the LTE network will be 42 Mbps and 5.76 Mbps respectively.

Customers can use LTE technology with standard SIM cards. However, older card types need to be updated; customers can request the update via My T-Mobile and the operator will perform it remotely (this concerns approximately 70% of cards). Owners of the oldest SIM cards manufactured before 2003 are advised to visit any T-Mobile shop, where their cards will be replaced free of charge.
