T-Mobile supports green NGO projects

  • Organisations can apply for top-up vouchers within the grant programme
  • A total of CZK 250,000 in vouchers will be distributed
  • Closing date for applications is 23 July 2010

Prague, 30 June 2010 - This year, T-Mobile is again supporting environmental activities. Beginning today, the company is opening a grant programme for projects of Czech non-governmental and non-profit organisations dedicated to nature and environmental protection. The operator will distribute Twist vouchers in the total value of CZK 250,000.

"By donating funds for telecommunications services, we want to give an impetus to non-profit organisations to develop primarily their ?green' projects. By building up a sufficiently broad base of donors, these organisations will be able to stand on their own feet in the long run," explains Jitka Chocová, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at T-Mobile.

Applications for vouchers in the total value of CZK 250,000 can be filed through the VIA Foundation by Friday, 23 July 2010. The grant programme is intended only for organisations involved in protecting nature and the environment and projects focused on these issues. Each applicant can receive vouchers in the maximum value of CZK 25,000. At the end of August, the evaluation committee will select winning projects and vouchers will be handed over to successful applicants in September.

The development of "green" NGOs and their activities is part of the sustainable development and climate protection strategy on which T-Mobile focuses. Activities within this strategy include, for example, the support of electronic invoice activation, which helped raise CZK 223,023 donated to UNICEF, and the "Support Gorillas with T-Mobile" project focused on handset recycling within the Rock for People music festival.

Last year alone, T-Mobile donated CZK 8.4 million to charity projects and its employees donated 594 days of work within the One Day for People in Need programme. The company's employees themselves take an active part in these activities: for the fifth year in a row, they nominated projects of NGOs or municipalities with which they actively cooperate to receive support from the T-Mobile Fund. A contribution in the total amount of CZK 2 million was distributed among 27 organisations out of the total 113 grant applicants.
