T-Mobile: The electronic invoice service has raised more than CZK 223,000 for UNICEF

  • More than 220,000 sheets of paper saved in a single month
  • Water disinfection and transportation equipment for 880 families
  • Sunflower seeds as thanks for activating the electronic invoice service

Prague, 24 June 2010 - The electronic invoice service is proof that T-Mobile is committed to its endeavour to protect the environment. In total, 74,341 customers activated the electronic Statement of Services during the campaign held in May. T-Mobile made a contribution of CZK 1 to UNICEF for every sheet of paper saved in this manner. In addition, customers received a small gift, a bag of sunflower seeds, as a reward for using this service and being friendly to the environment.

"We take corporate responsibility towards the world around us very seriously and we also try to engage our customers as much as possible," says Jitka Chocová, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager, adding: "If we can convince hundreds of thousands of clients to make a small change, the effect will be quite notable. I am very happy that as many as 178,971 customers have already decided to activate the electronic invoice service; over 70,000 of them activated the service just last month."

A single electronic invoice means that three sheets of paper are saved per month. Participants in the May campaign thus saved 223,023 sheets of paper in a single month. T-Mobile will donate the same amount in Czech crowns to UNICEF in order to support projects aimed at tackling water shortages, as ten litres of water are needed to produce one A4-size sheet of paper.

"This amount will be used for basic household equipment for water disinfection and transportation consisting of water tanks, buckets, soap, water-purifying tablets and disinfectants. This contribution will provide drinking water and hygiene to 880 families in need," explained Pavla Gomba, the Executive Director of the Czech Committee of UNICEF.

T-Mobile is involved in many activities related to environmental protection. The next activity in which T-Mobile customers will be able to participate is the collection of old mobile phones at the Rock for People festival. For each returned handset, T-Mobile customers will receive a top-up coupon worth CZK 100. T-Mobile will donate CZK 10 for each returned mobile phone to support a gorilla rescue project.
