T-Mobile: We believe that a record number of people will join us

  • The giant, 2x10m cartoon by Štěpán Mareš already has 663 co-authors
  • 63,000 cm2 of cartoon space has been filled using xxx marker pens
  • The celebrations will culminate on Tuesday afternoon when the cartoon is unveiled

Prague, 1 April 2007 - "663 people have taken part in an attempt to reach a record since Saturday morning when the celebrations connected with Mobile Etiquette Day started," says T-Mobile's Head of Corporate Communication, Martina Kemrová, adding: "Approximately one third of the 2x10 meter cartoon, 67,000 cm2, is already filled. The drawing is being created on a special, weather-resistant material designed for large-scale projections. WE are using professional-quality permanent marker pens to draw the cartoon. If everything goes well during the next two days, we will certainly break the record."

455 people have used the opportunity to have their photo taken with Mr. X, the popular embodiment of mobile etiquette known from the jaxmobilem.cz website. Particularly children are interested in the photo. "The jaXmobilem exhibition is also meeting with great response, offering visitors an opportunity to become familiar with the basic rules of good conduct when using a mobile phone in different situations. As part of the celebrations, we have organized a survey among parents, children and teachers. It is obvious that this issue is of great interest to the public and that people want to get actively involved in our project," says Martina Kemrová.

The celebration of Mobile Etiquette Day started on Saturday at 9 a.m., along with the launch of a contest at www.jaxmobilem.cz. People can also participate in the contest when attending the Mobile Etiquette Day celebrations. Acknowledgements go to Toshiba, which has provided notebooks, and to T-Mobile's Internet 4G service, enabling access to the jaXmobilem website. The contestants are required to write witty phrases in empty balloons accompanying one of the three caricatures by Štěpán Mareš.

The date of Mobile Etiquette Day, an informal "holiday", has been set for 3 April. The celebrations that will take place on Náměstí Republiky in Prague will culminate in the afternoon in the presence of the representatives of the 'Dobrý den' agency of Pelhřimov, the publisher of the Czech Book of Records.

The Mobile Etiquette Day is part of the successful jaXmobilem project in which T-Mobile has been involved, in co-operation with the cartoonist Stepan Mares, since 2006 when a website under the same name was launched. The informal "holiday" called Mobile Etiquette Day commemorates the date when the first voice connection using a portable cellular phone, the direct predecessor of today's mobile handsets, was established in New York in 1973. T-Mobile's comprehensive program of corporate social responsibility also includes, for example, the T-Mobile Fund, which is intended to support local initiatives in the regions where T-Mobile has its offices. Furthermore, T-Mobile organizes an annual charity auction and a volunteer program for its employees, supports waste recycling on its premises and is the first mobile operator in the market to have enabled customers to hand in their old handsets at retail shops for the purpose of ecological disposal.
