  • Mobile etiquette as part of the programme of T-Mobile's corporate social responsibility

Prague, 21 March 2006 - Every fifth Czech calls without a hands-free set when driving, 43% of Czech schools have enforced rules for mobile etiquette, 94% of people feel bothered by a ringing phone during a business meeting - these are only a couple of the results of an exclusive survey on mobile etiquette conducted by IBRS for T-Mobile. The survey also shows that 99% of Czechs turn their mobile phones down or off at a theatre or cinema, that in certain situations writing SMS or calling feel as disturbing to us as ringing and that Czechs are more tolerant of their friends breaching mobile etiquette than they are of their partners and family. More detailed results can now be found at www.jaXmobilem.cz.

"Mobile phones give us an excellent opportunity to keep in touch with our family, friends and colleagues, but we have to be considerate of others when using them," says Jiří Hájek, Vice President Corporate Communication of T-Mobile Czech Republic. "Mobile etiquette is now a global theme. T-Mobile realizes its responsibility in this respect and therefore has launched the first project of this kind in the Czech Republic. We want to show the situations in which we should be considerate of others and to teach people to use their mobile phones in a way which is not disturbing," adds Hájek.

The project "JaXmobilem" (which can be interpreted as "How to use a mobile phone") was prepared in cooperation with the well-known cartoonist Štěpán Mareš and illustrates in an amusing way how to use a mobile phone in a correct and considerate manner. The main characters of the campaign are the members of the X family. The project is available at www.jaXmobilem.cz, where you can also find the Ten Mobile Commandments, test yourself in mobile etiquette and take part in a contest for interesting prizes.

The project is part of T-Mobile's programme of corporate social responsibility which also includes, for example, the T-Mobile Fund, which is intended to support local initiatives in the regions where T-Mobile has its offices. Furthermore, T-Mobile organizes an annual charity auction and a volunteer programme for its employees, supports waste recycling on its premises and is the first mobile operator in the market to have enabled customers to hand in their old handsets at Retail Shops for the purpose of ecological disposal.
