Unconventional Hunting Season: QR reader instead of a gun

The top Czech web portal Seznam.cz and T-Mobile have prepared a new project aimed at promoting QR codes. Hunting Season officially starts on 18 October and is accompanied by an original campaign launched in the streets of Prague. All related information is available at www.lovecka-sezona.cz. To be able to succeed in hunting for the QR codes, hunters will need a Seznam.cz QR reader to which they can navigate through the Hunting Season website.

The purpose of the game is to scan QR codes spread around six hunting grounds in Prague. Each code contains a hint. The final and decisive password hint will help the six fastest contestants to get the final award, the latest version of the iPhone. Other contestants can win Samsung I9000 Galaxy and HTC Wildfire handsets, as well as a number of smaller prizes such as flash disks, key chains, etc. However, the prizes will be available to contestants only once they have collected all six premium hints in their mobile phones and managed to get the precious password hint. The game will be launched on 18 October and the hunters will have a maximum of one month to gather all of the hints.

"A real hunter always looks around and listens carefully. I think that any adventure lover will notice the invitation to hunting on benches and LCD monitors and in other public areas," says Martin Šámal, Senior Brand Manager at Seznam.cz. "We believe that the will to discover new things and the vision of hunting trophies will attract a great number of hunters who can join us at the beginning of a new era of communication between mobile phones and the world around us."

"We like to play and we think and hope that our customers do too," says Martin Jaroš, Vice President Market Communication at T-Mobile, adding: "QR codes are great for "treasure" hunting, plus you do not need anything else apart from a telephone and being ready to have fun."

The Hunting Season campaign was prepared by McCann Ericskon. Knowledge gained while introducing the QR codes into practice will be used by the project partners in other activities aimed at the broader use of mobile internet, which currently represents an important market both for content providers (Seznam.cz) and mobile operators and is expected to generate significant promotion revenues in the near future.
