Smart Car statistics: 81% of users are men, cars more than six years old on average

  • The highest number of rides between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
  • Notifications about a particular type of malfunction received by 53% of cars
  • Fifty percent of users are from Prague
  • The special offer of CZK 1,449 has been extended until 31 March 2017

Prague, 15 February 2016 - In cooperation with the Canadian company Mojio, T-Mobile is providing interesting figures regarding the operation of Smart Car. Statistics concerning this solution, which has been purchased mostly by men over the age of 40 (81%) show that the average age of the cars on which it is installed is six years and eight months. The busiest hour when most of the rides take place is between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. and the average ride takes 42 minutes. A total of 53% of cars reported a malfunction. This is no wonder, given this year’s extremely low winter temperatures: the malfunctions include flat batteries and a cable bitten in two by a mouse, for example.

“We are not messing around and we have been working hard on further development; user safety and comfort is our priority. In future, customers can look forward to attractive improvements. Changes to the Motion application will be introduced at the end of February/beginning of March. However, we can already offer some innovations now: there are two more applications – eParkomat, which will help with parking, and IFTTT, which will connect Smart Car with a smart household,” explains Otakar Mráz, Category & Product Manager at T-Mobile, who has headed the Smart Car project at T-Mobile since its inception.

The very attractive promotional offer of the device for the price of CZK 1,449 when customers sign a two-year fixed-term contract has been extended until 31 March 2017. From April, the standard price will be CZK 2,599; as part of a prepaid package, the solution will cost CZK 3,499 including one year of operation. Most activations are made in large cities, with 50% of users being from Prague.

Feedback from customers shows generally that they perceive the device as a means of enhancing their personal safety as well as the safety of their cars. Peculiarities that have been reported include information from the application that helped a user prove to the police that he was unable to commit an alleged offence because he was in a different part of the Czech Republic with his car at the particular time.

Existing as well as potential users of the solution will surely appreciate the fact that certain insurance companies offer special discounts on comprehensive auto insurance for above-standard car security features if they have this device installed in their cars. These insurance companies include, among others, Kooperativa and Generali.
