T-Mobile is getting ready for the fixed-mobile convergent future and made crucial steps in this direction in the first quarter of 2018.

The company successfully launched Magenta 1, a new service that offers benefits to B2C customers who combine mobile and/or fixed-line services under one contract. Our customers welcomed the offer, which resulted in higher sales in fixed broad-band and TV services, amounting to 23,000 new customers in total.

T-Mobile also launched a similar offer called Extra pro podnikatele ("Extra for Business Customers") for Czech small and medium-sized enterprises and self-employed persons, who can newly combine mobile and fixed voice and internet access services under one contract, thus gaining many benefits.

“Just a few months ago we announced our focus on fixed mobile convergence, where we see the future of telecommunications,” says Milan Vašina, Managing Director of T-Mobile Czech Republic and Slovak Telekom, adding: “For us at T-Mobile, this means not only investments in fixed technologies and building of fibre optics networks, but also offering our customers services, which are FMC ready. Our progress is bringing us a lot of satisfaction and it is proof that we have chosen the right strategy.”

Customers: Strong growth in fixed-line services and TV

Mobile: As of 31 March 2018, T-Mobile’s mobile services were being used by more than 6.15 million customers, of whom nearly 3.9 million were contract customers (63 % of the customer base) and more than 2.2 million were users of prepaid services. The most popular new tariff plans were the full-flat “Mobil M” and “Mobil S”, which were launched only a year ago to address growing demand for data. Thanks to that, the average monthly usage per user (contract customers) exceed 1 GB.

Fixed broadband: Beginning on 1 February 2018, T-Mobile increased the speed of its Pevný internet ("Fixed-Line Internet") service by supplementing the existing S, M and L tariff plans with the new XL tariff plan, which now offers maximum download speeds of up to 250 Mbps. Fixed xDSL broadband services xDSL and the Fixed Internet Over the Air service are currently used by 179,000 customers including 13,000 new signings in Q1/2018.

TV: T-Mobile expanded its portfolio in January with the launch of T-Mobile SAT TV. This new-generation satellite TV service is available in 100% of the territory of the Czech Republic and is an alternative to the IPTV platform in areas where sufficiently fast internet access is not available. T-Mobile can thus offer a modern TV service to all households in the Czech Republic. IPTV and SAT TV services from T-Mobile are currently used by 47,000 customers, 10,000 of whom signed up Q1/2018.

Technology: Ready for future

T-Mobile is preparing for the future and has been actively involved in the expansion of LTE-Advanced Pro networks and the development of 5G networks within the Deutsche Telekom Group. In January and February this year, the company tested the Massive MIMO (mMIMO) technology for LTE, which is one of the key building blocks of the fifth-generation networks. Compared with other pilot operations of this technology that have taken place so far, this was the largest test in continental Europe ever.

In 00511/2018, the volume of transmitted data in the T-Mobile Czech Republic network grew by 25.3% year-on-year, reaching more than 13 000 TB.

Financial indicators: Growth in Q1/2018

Total revenues from mobile and fixed-line services including hardware sales exceeded CZK 6.5 billion in Q1/2018, with revenues from mobile services rising to more than CZK 4.5 billion. Total revenues grew nearly 0.5%. The average monthly revenue from mobile services per user (ARPU) was CZK 249.
