T-Mobile: For the world around us in 2009

  • The amount of T-Mobile's contribution to the non-profit sector will be at least the same as in the previous year
  • Employees will be involved in helping people in need as usual
  • All information about T-Mobile's CSR activities available at www.prosvetkolemnas.cz

Prague, 20 January 2009 - Despite the slowdown of the Czech economy expected as a result of the global economic crisis, T-Mobile is continuing to develop its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program and will contribute at least the same amount of funding as in the previous year to projects supporting the non-profit sector. At the same time, T-Mobile has decided to improve the awareness of CSR issues and its activities in this area and is therefore launching a new portal at www.prosvetkolemnas.cz.

"We are aware that 2009 will be a tough year for the non-profit sector. A lot of donors will have to face existential difficulties and will thus probably reduce their contributions to charitable activities. However, T‑Mobile wants to be a reliable partner for non-profit organizations also in these hard times and it is ready to distribute through its grants at least the same amount as in 2008," says Jitka Chocová, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at T-Mobile, presenting the company's position on the current economic situation, adding: "We will also provide maximum support to our employees who want to help non-profit organizations save money, for example by participating in the ?One Day for People in Need' volunteer program."

In 2008 T-Mobile donated almost CZK 9 million in grants to non-profit organizations. This year, the company will organize the fifth annual grant process in which regions can apply for resources from the T-Mobile Fund. The aim of this fund is to support regions where T-Mobile operates, i.e. the regions of Hradec Králové, Louny and the Prague 11 city district. Within the fourth year of the T-Mobile Employee Fund, employees can again recommend non-profit organizations they cooperate with or which they simply find worth supporting. Financial support in the amount of CZK 66,000 will also go to eight high schools who have successfully applied for "Small Grants to fund projects prepared by students.

The "One Day for People in Need" program, which has been running at T-Mobile since 2005, allows each employee to spend one paid working day a year helping people who need it. Over four years, T-Mobile employees have dedicated more than 1,100 working days to the non-profit sector. In 2008 a record 445 employees, including members of the management, out of 2,500 participated in the program.

A new CSR project T-Mobile is launching at the beginning of 2009 is the special website at www.prosvetkolemnas.cz, where people can learn everything about corporate social responsibility. The website is divided into three basic sections. "Healthy Planet" offers, among other things, tips on contributing to the protection of the environment, what to do with an old mobile phone and what T-Mobile is doing to improve the environment. The "Social Contribution" section includes information on how T-Mobile helps (not only) socially and physically disadvantaged people and advice for applicants for T-Mobile Fund grants. The "Fair Business" section introduces the principal ethical values T-Mobile applies to all its activities. This third section will also contain special pages for children and parents dedicated to the safe use of mobile phones and the internet.

An extra feature of the www.prosvetkolemnas.cz website will be a Google map of the Czech Republic showing all places where T-Mobile has helped through its charitable projects.
